This past weekend I drove in with my girlfriend, best friend and his girlfriend. My friend's girlfriend had never been to a collegiate game, much less a night in Death Valley, so we wanted to show her a good time. Anyways, we were tailgating at my Uncle's regular spot and, much to our dismay, had forgot to bring plastic cups to lug our precious cargo (re: beer/alcohol) in. After picking up merchandise at the Tiger Store (across from the Varsity on Highland, can't remember it's name) since it has the vintage logo we started trekking down Highland. Hearing of the comraderie and fan nature exhibited by Tiger faithful, I made a pit stop at a tailgate that looked to be friendly and asked if I could have 4 of their plastic cups. I was quickly given weird and menacing looks and the jabs started to flow: "Yea, I bet he is just going to go to every tailgate asking for stuff" "Where's your tailgate at?" "Sounds like a personal problem" Eventually one of the men stepped in and asked how many I needed from their stack of 30+ cups and I thanked him and walked away somewhat shameful for even thinking to ask. Maybe I was in the wrong for asking and should have just sucked it up without a cup but I just figured, in viewing my uncle being generous at our tailgate, that others would be eager to help out a fellow Tiger. It didn't sour my day but it definitely makes me weary to approach other tailgates from now on. :geauxtige
With somewhere around 120,000 people on campus for most home games there are bound to be at least a few a-holes. You just found one of them. Sometimes they travel in herds, which may have been the case this time.:yelwink2:
It's better than our experience at Kentucky. When we found out the campus was dr, we went up to one tailgate asking if we could have a couple plastic cups. We were promptly told to go fornicate ourselves. Understandable, as we are the enemy, but this was repeated word for word at three other tailgates before we gave up. How were you dressed? I know that if someone who is dressed like they are there for the game asks me for something, I give it to them. Conversely, if some little gangsta comes up with his pants hanging off his ass, hat turned sideways, and sporting a white wifebeater and asks me for anything, I will tell him to hit the bricks. Not saying that you were dressed inappropriately, just pointing out that some people will make snap judgments.
I had my Lafell #1 Jersey with the NC Patch on the shoulder on but I get your point. It just shocks me when someone is stingy with something so miniscule when I have seen the outpouring my Uncle does to bretheren and rivals alike. They had the right to say no but it's just the atmosphere we were in made it seem like it would be different.
If you ever walk by the parade grounds and ask us (Team KATT) for cups NOT only will we give ya however many cups you need but we will some how talk you into sticking around and filling those cups up with beer and play flip cup!! And I would beat any amount of money that theses were people NEW (meaning post national championship) to the LSU family!
Well, I'm coming back for the Gaytor game so I will definitely make an effort next time, just need directions.
COOl the Gator game is gonna be the "Official" Tigerforums Meet Up tailgate!!!! If you are standing at the foot of the steps to the student union..we 5 degrees to the right of the steps on the parade grounds!
