I wouldn't consider it burning the redshirt because Les plans on using him in situations this season. Maybe even to do some trickery and throw later on in the season when all we have done with him is run earlier in the season. Make people think he is only a runner, when he is actually a passing guy that can run.
It completely make sense to get him game experience, he IS THE backup.....totally not a wasted redshirt.
Les has said from the beginning of fall practice Jennings was going to play. Whay are so many surprised he plays him? Hopefully Les has learned from his mistake of not giving BU QBs time in games. Jennings needs to play if he is as good as advertized.
At the time I was wondering WTF. Now that you question logic I'd like believe there was some logic involved. My theory is that Les was serving notice to any and all. Serving notice to future opponents that his new guy is so good that he'll only be here three years so I may as well use him now and you better start worrying about him. Serving notice to recruits..."You see son, if you can play you will play. Just sign with LSU and we'll give you the best conditioning and coaching available to get you in the game early and often". The timing was pure genius IMO. TCU had just changed quarterbacks to a dual threat type in Boykin and LSU was facing a fourth 3rd down in the red zone. LSU needed a touchdown and though Mett more than likely could have converted on the same call, Les served notice to Patterson. "Hey Gary, you've got a nice change of pace duel threat QB there. Guess what, I've got one of those too that I'm not afraid to use and we think is better than yours. Want to get in a shoot out? ...Didn't think so, now slow your roll, bend over and take it Bitch."
I feel sorry for Bolden. The poor guy couldn't take a shower after practice the whole time he was at Penn State...where the term "cleanup quarterback" had a totally different meaning.
If it says "QB" next to their name, play them early and often. Miles finally has a dependable QB but he's leaving after this year.
I wonder if he can tackle, they should try him on special teams. After the last BCS game we found out JJ was a better tackler than quarterback, who knows.
Who in their right mind thinks that was the only play Jennings will participate in for the entire season? Obviously they have big plans to incorporate his talents into our gameplan.
