Why did we burn a redshirt to pick up a first down? I know Jennings is going to be good, but Jesus, the logic here.
1) We don't redshirt many guys because they don't stay 4 years, much less 5. 2) He's going to be used like RP was in '07. This is a good thing, and he got a 1st down. He is being put in while we're in the red zone to make the defenses account for more.
From everything I've heard, I assumed it was just a given that he was going to play some point this year. I feel they think they have the next star at QB in AJ and that they might as well start getting him involved now and use him here and there where he can help.
This. Except I haven't heard it from any sources, it just makes sense given that he's #2 on our depth chart. I felt the same way at first, but to think that the #2 QB would not need to play a meaningful snap the whole year seems a thought against the odds.
1. If he is going to be the backup QB, he needs to get some PT quickly. We don't need his first game to be against Georgia or Bama. 2. They want to get some class separation between him and Rettig. 3. He is the change up quarterback, no one is talking about Bolden.
Exactly, he IS the backup, lets get him reps when the game allows. Hopefully in the next two weeks he gets plenty of playing time with Mett securing big early leads.
It's just a small taste of what's to come in the upcoming years, even this year. He is gonna contribute to our success this year and I'm sure the coaches have already put him in many special red-zone/short-yardage plays.
