I'm very concerned about Lee's ability to read Saban's blitzes. Saban does an excellent job of disguising blitzes which can confuse seasoned QB's. I look for a pretty simple offense against Bama to limit the positions we put Lee into. The WR's are good, maybe great, but Lee has had trouble hitting them in-stride which has accounted for many of the drops. Bama will stack the box & will not make it easy for us to run regardless of how well our OL performs. I'm hoping Cody isn't back or at least isn't at 100%. This would be a real concern for you if our passing game was better... As is, Lee rarely checks down from his primary WR which will most likely masks these Bama weaknesses to a degree. Bama's offense is obviously capable, but our defense can limit them if we play disciplined. I have faith that we will. Chad Jones (the sack & fumble from last year) is still here. :thumb: The Tulane game will be vital for our DB's to make improvements & gain some confidence. Personally, I'm hoping to see a lot more of Patrick Peterson.
I forgot how much actual football discussion you can come away with on this board. :dis: **I see that Parso is game for good football talk**
Its sort of a weird theory but I kind of like it. It makes Lee deliver the ball quickly, he cant lock on to receivers for an hour, and it doesnt let him think too much. Plus Bama plays a lot of man.
I don't think the importance of that game to your players' confidence can be understated. You destroyed what was believed to be a great team. Obviously, in retrospect, it was not, but none the less it was huge to your season.
LaFell & Byrd can beat man coverage easy. Bama plays a sort of man-zone hybrid primarily though I believe, and I'm concerned that this will trick Lee into believing a WR is open when he isn't...
I agree with your last statement here CP. This is a tune up game for both of us. Arkansas St has 2 backs with collectively over 1000 yards rushing. Their QB is decent but he has also been sacked 14 times. How do you get sacked 14 times when you have a line leading 2 500 yd rushers? I guess it shows those backs can really run. For you guys, obviously you will be up against a good runner also. Pay attention to their defense though. They blitzed us from every direction imaginable and JPW had troubles--bet they will try the same with Lee. Whats the spread on the game?
RedElephants, Bama's looking good and ahead of where I thought they'd be this year. Saban's getting it all out of his players. I'm not surprised by the quick starts but the lack of "finishing off" the team has displayed is uncharateristic of Saban's teams. He's a fourth quarter guy. Nonetheless, let me be the one to say I'm jealous of Bama right now as many LSU fans are but congratulations on a great first half of the season. I think we get by this year but wouldn't lay money on it cause it's definitely one we could drop.
I think that the 2nd half hiccups that we've had is a mental thing. Usually we're whippin up so much in the 1st half, I guess they think they can just relax some. That was taken care off in Neyland but can we keep it going? I think Alabama and LSU both need to put 50 spots on their opponent this Saturday to get ready for next week.
