Ayana Dunning, a 6'3" C out of Ohio and he #14 ranked player in Class of 2008, verbals to LSU. http://www.hoopgurlz.com/story/dunning-dials-long-distance. 2006-07 stats: 19.8 points, 14.0 rebounds, 2.2 assists, 2.8 steals and 3.2 blocks last season. In addition to the list of LSU verbals provided in the article, Van also received a commit from 6'2" Swayze Black out of Mississippi.
Wow, GREAT pickup and kinda makes up for losing out on Sykes. What a class VC is reeling in. I'm trying to read the story and can't get HG to load, guess there's so much excitement from Tiger fans over Van's haul we crashed the site.
3 days to the signing period and Van may still get himself a JC player or two. Despite the loss of Sykes, I think this class is excellent as you say and I think they will be a huge complement to Allison Hightower, who I think this year is LSU's most talented do-everything-you-need-to-win player.
I'm happy for Van and LSU. I watched VC coach the Comets here in Houston, and he did a great job managing egos with Cynthia Cooper and Cheryl Swoopes, plus Tina Thompson. It was not easy. He's a likable guy, and has great experience. Geaux Tigers!!!
http://hoopgurlz.com/node/2867 They are saying she may be the best post player in the 08 class. She was ranked #3 overall before a knee injury and a case of mono slowed her season.
for those of you in town, go and watch these girls play. they play a new brand different from when Pokey was there, and point blank, they are more deserving of the fan support than the men, b/c: 1. hall of fame coach 2. 4 final fours 3. it's more exciting to watch this year 4. the team is No. 5 in the nation 5. it's your last year to see future hall of famer Sylvia Fowles so yeah, if you're in town for a night, come out and see a game. I am with the team every day at practice and am at every game, so I know the majority of the girls real well, and they def do appreciate the support.
Swayze is a true frosh. Yes, if everyone who currently verballed signs with the Van, LSU will potentially have the same problem 4 years from now of having to replenish half the team. In reality, keeping a class this large together for four years will be improbable: injuries happen, redshirts happen, transfers happen....I'm impressed that the five original members of the LSU Class of 2008 (Fowles, LaBlanc, Chaney. Thomas and White) all stayed and will all transfer at the same time. Rumor is that Erica Brown, a JC point guard out of Tallahassee CC, who originally verballed Georgia, is also ready to come on board. We'll know next week.
