I like the idea of mixing up the blitz packages and getting our playmakers in opponents backfields. I could see us moving to more of a 3-4 because that's what Steele runs and we are thin at DL, but we are also thin at LB too. And when I say thin, I mean thin in experience more than talent. I agree, it’s hard to miss on this many recruits, we have some playmakers and I think Coach O will develop them. But realistically, if depth on the D-Line is our worry, then that should mean we have the QB position sorted out and I’m good with that. Until then, my concerns for success this season still sits at the QB question mark. I listen to a lot of Sirius XM radio, and the emphasis put on 1st year starting QB’s as to why teams are considered overrated or expected to have a down fall from last year is a bit surprising……. considering 6 of the last 7 national championship teams had 1st year starting QB’s (with the only non-1st year starter being AJ and his back to back Bama championships in 11 and 12). So, while I agree that QB is a huge concern, especially at LSU, it’s pretty damn doable for a QB to come in his 1st season and take a team with this much talent at the skill positions to the top of the SEC. (Yes, this means you Harris).
Noted - I would just like to see Elmer Fudd commit to Harris as well. Regardless of issues he deserved more than one game last season.
FYI, Okeke and Keys have arrived at LSU and ready to go through Fall practice. Some good news Keys will be pushed and will get a ton of playing time againts McNeese.
Asked at the start of fall practice about the QB situation, Miles gave the standard coach speak about each player being talented and each having improved a lot since last season but then made a very telling statement. He said the starting QB would not necessarily be the most talented or the most gifted QB, but the one the coaches felt better fit the team. So there you go. As we all knew, Jennings will be the starter. Harris might get to start against McNeese if AJ gets a one game suspension but the most talented QB will be sitting the bench according to Miles.
Making room for younger guys and going somewhere that he can play his senior season. Works better for both sides, I wish him luck. He got his degree, so he's headed in the right direction.
Keys will get his time in. Also got some word and trying to get a little more info, Isaiah Washington looks to be close to 6'5" and around 260#. Also getting some word, it was better for Bain to move on, best of luck to him. Keep an eye on these two incoming guys, Steele, BDP and O will be pushing them early.
