Now that is funny. I really dont get it, you always have a very tough defense, great running backs and have been very successful playing ball control ....If it aint broke, dont fix it. Then you go and hire this clown that pimps himself out like an infomercial for flipping houses, or a freaking new blender. My god, just watching them call in the plays is commical, those three guys have to feel like idiots on the sidelines. I could be way off (not the first time) but Saban may have made TT blink and this was his panic button. I am sure that TT is already second guessing his decision. Bash away if you would like.
I think Saban made CTT change his recruiting technique but I suspect Tubberville just decided to go with the popular offense after pushing Borges away. I think it will be successful over time, they just need more players -- like 11 of them.
I think it had more to do with what other teams that are running the spread are doing like Texas Tech, Missouri, Kansas, Orgeon and others. Putting up a lot of points is enticing. But I think the spread offense isn't for every team. It's almost like saying there is a universal "best" offense. Which we all know ain't the case. I feel tubs just got bit by the "spread bug" like many other coaches that have started running it. Personally I think he would have been better off sticking to what has worked for him up to this point. Recruit for a power running game and have good enough personnel that you can balance it out with the pass and field a very good defense. If it ain't broke don't fix it.
All joking aside it might make sense because more agile linemen is probably what works best in Franklin's system. You don't want a 320 lb hawg trying to run in a system that requires a lot of lateral movement.
