I wasn't really impressed, but it was worth watching to see what we had in store for us when we play both of them. I do see Newton fron Auburn being a problem if we continue to use a cover defense every play though
I watched the game this morning. Aubs offense is going to be scary good if that QB starts to feel real comfortable in the SEC. He is a beast! He gains six yards and looks like he took 2 steps. Got a nice arm too. Aubs standard running game is weak except for the freshman Dyer. The others cant run inside and the o-line doesnt look great on run blocking even though they are supposed to be a strong point. Aubs defense will continue to hurt them. They have one great d-lineman and one better than average LB but they play a scheme the players obviously dont get because you can see the DB's blowing assignments everywhere. Receivers are open all over the place in their zone D. When they went man late in the game they were better but overall that D is as suspect this year as it was last year. Moo-U's offense is a work in progress. Their starting QB cant throw very well and their receivers cant hang onto the ball. The other QB has a good arm but he is green and needs experience. They have a decent inside running game but overall their O is going to struggle in league play. Moo's defense is not too bad. They also have one really good d-lineman and serviceable players to go with him but were lucky Aub shot themselves in the foot a few times with stupid penalties. They were overrunning the pocket on pass plays but were good stuffing the run unless it was Aubs QB. I came away thinking both these teams have some upside but Aub is clearly better. Moo was lucky Aub made a couple stupid mistakes cause this game could have easily been 24-0 in the first half. Moo is going to get better under Mullin though. You can see they have confidence and are playing hard nose ball. Both will be dangerous as the year goes on but Aub poses far more of a threat especially with that beast QB. It remains to be seen how he holds up to the pounding week in and week out but he is a very big guy who will hurt a lot of tacklers.
neither team looked great to me. they both looked like they have weapons. The quarterback from MS ST made some pretty throws at times, the best one i saw was the back shoulder throw on 3rd and long at the end of the game that his receiver dropped. Could have put them in a position to tie the game. How come other teams can see freshman running backs play extensively on offense? Last year T Rich, this year Dyer, Lattimore, i think Lacy even had 100 plus for Bama last weekend. On another note, did anyone see Reed or Benton? I didn't.
Surprised Reed didnt play because the local chatter about him has been positive. He supposedly looked really good in fall camp. He may have played last week, I dont know. Benton has been hurt as Hatcher pointed out.
So, does this mean you're reconsidering the loss? With both of these teams, survive the first quarter, after that, teams should settle down to all the razzmatazz. Besides you can see that both teams are leaving plenty of opportunities to get back into the game. Turnovers and missed assignments were a plenty. SEC teams are going to have to scheme the QB position, they definitely went to their "tebow" look.
i'm always up for rethinking what goes through my obviously screwed up head. I will tell you one thing, you mentioned the "tebow" look, it was really weird seeing that inside option to the tight end. I don't know man, both teams looked like they have improved on D, and Cam Newton looks like he is going to be a good quarterback. The only reason i was thinking Auburn would beat us is because we don't play well at Jordan Hare. But who knows man. I think LSU is better than those teams, at least physically and athletically, but it's the SEC, and anything goes.
A lot of teams have played Bad on the plains, especially with some of Tubs defensive efforts. I'm watching to see who cracks the offensive code and how often. Next up Clemson.
