Possibly. Of course Auburn 2004 benefitted greatly from a screwing by the referees in the LSU game . . . I said Auburns out-of-conference schedule. The Citadel, Louisiana Tech, and The University of Monroe Louisiana. Auburn by 111-10. Everyone agrees that Auburn's SEC wins should have counted for more in the subjective polls.
The 2004 MNC is a tough call. Since the BCS IS the official method of determining the MNC that leaves a slight problem. No BCS poll is compiled after the championship game. The BCS only ranks trough the end of the season to determine the top 2 teams to play for the MNC. Winner is the champ . But, if you void USC's victory and still keep OU with a loss, then technically there is no winner therefore no champ. Essentially the season was not concluded. Yes there are USA today and AP polls after the season that had Auburn as #2 but that's only 2/3 of the equation. I think they should go back, get all the players and coaches together of the Auburn and OU 2004 teams, and replay the BCS championship to determine a winner. It's the only fair way.
Auburn won their bowl game. I think they should be awarded the national championship. They won't though, it will just go down as no one in the record books.
I understand, but that's the myth, Red. Florida beat the Citadel the following season enroute to the MNC, but it didn't enter into the equation. Things that make you go hmmmmmm. :insane: There are only two teams in the history of college football to beat five top-ten ranked teams in the same year. The Auburn 2004 team was one of those teams.
won MNC 2 years later, and didn't play the Citadel in their championship season. '06 was much easier to eliminate teams than '04 was Michigan, just lost to the team it would have played for MNC Wisconsin lost to Michigan Louisville, well they're Louisville process of elimination = Florida
Why wouldn't the AP change anything, if the facts change? Are they morons??? Do they have any credibility left, are do they just hang on USC's jock?
So they've GIVEN USC titles for 2003 AND 2004 without them winning the BCS title game in either year, huh? That's just great.
Yep, I stand corected. Should've referenced 2008 as the year that UF played Citadel without any negative impact
Auburn had a great year. I'm just curious if they would've been unbeaten without the help of a homwtown replay official. ..."uh...uh...the ruling on the field is that we don't want Auburn to lose, therefore there is no penalty on the play"
