Email Brought to you by Rhett Lashlee joins Gus Malzahn, again, at Auburn (Joe Songer / al.com) AUBURN, Alabama – Rhett Lashlee is Auburn's new offensive coordinator as he reunites with Gus Malzahn, the man he played high school ball for in Arkansas and who he has been with most of his coaching career. Lashlee, who served as Malzahn's offensive coordinator at Arkansas State this season, is making the move with Malzahn to Auburn, according to sources familiar with move. Lashlee and Malzahn have been together, from their days at Shiloh Christian High, to Arkansas for a year to Auburn when Malzahn was the offensive coordinator and Lashlee was his graduate assistant in 2009 and 2010. Lashlee was Pat Sullivan's offensive coordinator at Samford in 2011. He then moved to Arkansas State when Malzahn was named head coach there. "Rhett is one of the brightest minds and up and coming coaches in college football," said Malzahn when they arrived at Arkanas State. "I've said it for a long time that Rhett has the 'it' factor and he is going to be a head coach at this level someday. We are just going to enjoy him for the time that we have him." Lashlee, then at Samford, and Malzahn, then at Auburn, faced each other in 2011. In advance of that, we wrote about how similar they are. Malzahn's first coaching move was hiring Ellis Johnson as his defensive coordinator Thursday. Also, Ryan Russell is leaving Arkansas State to become Auburn's new strength and conditioning coach. He replaces Kevin Yoxall, who was told Wednesday he was being replaced. Russell was Yoxall's assistant in 2010 and 2011. Russell left Auburn with Malzahn to be the strength and conditioning coach at Arkansas State. Rhrett Lashlee bio http://www.auburntigers.com/sports/m-footbl/mtt/lashlee_rhett00.html
That's pretty funny Tusk.... Sadly you are probably right. I guess he holds it in his shorts so he doesn't lose it.
I wonder if if gus mahlzan is what brett favre and curley hallman were only with cam instead of brett? only time will tell i guess, gus's style of offense works against sunbelt teams, but we will see if it will work against sec defenses.....without cam newton and that o-line.
It wasn't just $cam that made that team click. Without Fairley, we beat them in '10. Malzahn benefitted from once-in-a-generation talents on either side of the ball. I can't wait to see him and Auburn fall on their faces.
