I'd like to add dropped passes. It is still a common theme with these receivers. I know Mett was not on target with all his passes last night but some of them should have been hauled in. OBJ had a long one in his hands and this seems to happening a lot with him. I'm watching far less talent around the league making much better throws and catches than we are. Does anyone have a clue as to why this is? Is it our concentration or our receiver coaching?
Yep, we sure let them into the game. Without that fumble--so close to 6 points!--Auburn may have never gotten their emotional head of steam. Red nailed this with his "Trap Game" pointer: this was ours, we let it begin, but we squeaked past it. And "squeaked" is the operative word, because it was a near thing, a very near thing.
The good is that it takes some heat off of Gene. Before this game I felt you had Bama/LSU then everyone else in a far distant. Now I feel no one will challenge UA.
The bad: The same old predictable offense. Mett was ill prepared to handle the blitz. Mett's release of the football is one of the longest I have ever seen. The turnovers. The penalties. The O-Line. The good: The D----Thank god we have that. We may be in for a rough wake up call. Always hard being overrated by preseason rankings. We have a new QB, our defensive backfields is nearly all new freshman players, we lose our best DT and were ranked in the top five??? We will have a hard time with Miss St, South Carolina and Florida this year. We can forget about beating Alabama unless they all get the flu.
Well, I didn't mention the kicking team being bad. Only that the 20-yard punt was ugly. I like the kicking team this year, although 2 missed short field goals already are disturbing and I was disappointed that we didn't really get any returns last night.
Yes, I was. I saw Drew miss a 34 yarder and also saw Wing shank a punt- doesn't mean they're not good kickers. Ware had 90 yards rushing last night but most were in two huge chunks- two runs totaled 60 of those. On 14 other carries he had 30 so I wouldn't say averaging 2 yards per carry is running over people. In fact he had several carries that were for a loss. When you run high you get knocked backwards instead of finishing falling forward.
some of you need to get a grip and stop believing the bama hype machine. Bama has some tough games coming and i wouldnt give them the lsu game just yet. Did you not just see what a team back against the wall can bring out. Our fanbase will be rabid for that one and we have a defense that ark dont have and if your basing your evaluation of bama on mich and arky without wislon then nd beating mich should tell you something. OMG they beat fla. int bad or their other patsies. Bama season starts in the sec and every team is going to give them their best shot. Arky couldnt but lets face it they are a mess right now. Lets dont give them the nc just yet.
Allow me to say I'm happy that you're not a player for us. We don't need to "forget" about beating anyone--ever. AU surprised me by being incredibly up for this game, and I agree that Jordan Hare was what Tiger Stadium no longer is--what with quiet crowds that show up drunk and leave by the 3rd quarter. We weren't accustomed to playing in front of a loud crowd, that's for sure. Mett's two fumbles were hideous--there's no excuse for that. Also, he didn't have good awareness of where to go for a first down. Two times, he started sliding about a yard short of the first down, and we had to punt. Both of those times, the first down certainly could've been made. LaSalle said he didn't think the Lavar Edwards penalty should've been called. I thought that at first, too, but he actually went and hit the QB late over by the sidelines. On a side note, after Miles chewed Jalen Mills' ass for his personal foul, it looked like Mills wanted to talk back to Miles. I didn't like that.
The D definitely played much better than they did against Idaho. The DL won the battle up front for the most part. The LBs are much quicker and better than last year. Jones and Alexander are going to be great ones. The DBs are young and not quite what we have grown use to. But they are going to be excellent down the road. I think Reid is trying too hard this year. He is often taking band angles. Ware was certainly a good point for LSU. Id like to see him the feature back. He runs so hard and punishes the D. He is a beast of a back. Two things I really love about the LSU backs. They rarely seek to run out of bounds at first opportunity. They lower the shoulder to lay the smack down to the defender. In this day and age most back want to run out of bounds as soon as they can. Not LSU backs. I also love how team oriented these kids are. Most would start and be a stud back for most teams. Yet they are the first to congratulate who ever is in there making plays. Its all about the team for these kids.
