I always advise folks to stay in either Mid town or downtown Decatur. In those neighborhoods there are plenty of bars, shops, and restaurants. You can also safely walk to and from MARTA almost any time. The best bar in Atlanta, The Brickstore Pub, is in downtown Decatur. Well over 200 beers on the menu, and great food.
On my last trip I saw that Mako's and all the 25¢ draft places had been bull-dozed. Now I see that ESPNZone is closed, wussup with that? Anyway, I got us a room in Union City, should be a half-hour drive to the Dome. But we'll probly park at a MARTA station and ride in.
Yep, I was bummed to find all our hangouts gone when I was up there for our last SECCG. But I got to spend quality time with batgirl and her Mom at a mexican place in Buckhead, someone was doing an LSU radio remote there. http://www.espnzone.com/locations.shtml
Yeah, Buckhead isn't what it once was. That strip of bars is all condos and stuff now. The Mexican place you are referring to is the Rio Grande Cantina. I am not sure if LSU Atlanta Alumni still does stuff there are not. I always tried to get them to have the view ins at a place called the Depeaux, because the food was better, the owners were LSU fans, and I could walk there.
Re: Georgia Dome Lots of cool stuff happening in Atlanta on Friday and Saturday. If you're not aware, go to www.lsuatlanta.com and look at the fan guide. There is an LSU street party on Friday at Front Page News, which is not far from where you're staying in Midtown. There are also some LA acts playing at The Tabernacle, which is not a long cab ride. Enjoy.
