Re: Morris Claiborne Commits There was an article in Sports Illustrated in 03 about how well LSU (Saban more specifically) was at utilizing former QBs all around the field. LaRon Landry was also a QB in HS. As was Skyler Green I believe. It's not unheard of for the best athlete on the field to play QB at the HS level, kind of like in little league the best player is always plays short.
Re: Morris Claiborne Commits He has played defense in high school. From a Nov 12 2008 article from the Times-Picayune: --Claiborne is a four-year starter, his first three years he played as both a receiver and defensive back ... After playing receiver and defensive back through his junior year, Claiborne was moved to quarterback and has accounted for 30 touchdowns in the Indians’ spread offense. He has rushed for 1,023 yards and 14 touchdowns in addition to passing for 1,009 and 16 more scores. --named to the Times Picayune Preseason Top 25 Blue Chip List --an ankle injury hampered Claiborne’s junior year in football --He also runs sprints in track, winning a championship in the 200 meters and anchoring his track team's 400- and 800 relays, in addition to being a 22-foot long jumper --He said: "(LSU is) just where I always wanted to be. I’ve been dreaming about (going there)." --As a sophomore, the Shreveport Times named him the Male High School Athlete of the Year http://highschoolsports.nola.com/news/article/2084861571/
Re: Morris Claiborne Commits His football coach on his character: "[LSU is] getting a phenomenal young man, ... The entire faculty, the student body, the administration loves him. ... [LSU is] getting a phenomenal young man." http://www.shreveporttimes.com/article/20081113/SPORTS0101/811130316&referrer=FRONTPAGECAROUSEL According to the Times-Picayune: "One certainty for LSU, is that Claiborne’s character may exceed his considerable athleticism" The same Times Picayune article called him "an extremely gifted athlete" and said they named him to their Preseason Top 25 Blue Chip List. Claiborne was also named a Top 40 Louisiana recruit by both the Advocate and Dandy Don, beating out thousands of high school seniors on Louisiana football teams for those honors. His coach said: “They’re getting an exceptional player, an exceptional athlete and they’re getting an exceptional young man ... (LSU is) getting a true go-getter." http://highschoolsports.nola.com/news/article/2084861571/ So we got a blue-chip athlete with the heart of a champion? Imagine that! :LSU231: :milesmic:
