Re: Drayton Calhoun commits to LSU Dec 6 -- Calhoun committed to LSU at the end of February earlier this year, and his dedication to the Tigers has not wavered since. “Alabama was trying to stay on me for the first few months after I committed, but they stopped after a while,” he said. “I told my coach I didn’t want any more phone calls or letters from other school because I knew I was going to LSU.” Calhoun continued to display his allegiance to the Tigers by only taking one visit during the season, to see LSU take on Georgia in Baton Rouge. “I took an unofficial visit to LSU for the Georgia game,” Calhoun said. “Seeing them lose didn’t really bother me. I know every team has a bad game, because we even had one this year. But being in the stadium and hearing the fans made me feel like I was at home. Because of that I know for sure that LSU is the right place for me.” Calhoun will not be away from his new home much longer, as he has another visit planned to LSU in the next few weeks. He will also be one of several members of the 2009 class to enroll early and start school in January. “I’m going back to LSU for my official visit on Dec. 19,” said Calhoun. “After that, I will be moving down to Baton Rouge on Jan. 13 so I can start school in the spring. I’m going down there early, so I expect to be well prepared and get myself ready to see some playing time my freshman year.” ... When he first committed to LSU, many considered him a future cornerback for the Tigers. Now, it appears his career will at least start on the other side of the ball. “I’m pretty sure I’m going to be starting out on offense,” he said. “I don’t really have a preference for a specific position. I’m just trying to get on the field early.” ... “Coach Peveto came by my school on Monday,” Calhoun said. “He was just stopping by to check in on me and make sure everything is going OK. He came to one of my games earlier this year too. And he and Coach Miles are supposed to be coming by for an in-home visit next week.” http://louisianastate.scout.com/2/818821.html
Re: Drayton Calhoun commits to LSU FYI. John, you can't post entire articles from paid sites. Maybe paraphrase parts of it.
Re: Drayton Calhoun commits to LSU I think so too! Just another to add to the best class we've ever had.
Re: Drayton Calhoun commits to LSU I don't mind seeing this guy in a TH type of role. He supposedly runs a very low 4.3 time and is a bigger TH. Once he adds a lot more muscle, look out.
Re: Drayton Calhoun commits to LSU Calhoun has helped lead his team, Tucker (13-1), to the Georgia 4A State Championship game, where they will face Marist (13-1) on 8 p.m. Friday at the Georgia Dome. It is the first Tucker team to reach the championship game since 1963. As for Marist, they won state titles in 1989 and 2003. Besides Calhoun, the other big-time recruit on Tucker's team is LB Jonathan Davis (who Rivals has as the #27 ILB, and says he has offers from GT, Miami, Penn State, Oklahoma St, and South Carolina -- Scout says he has offers from Alabama, Florida, GT, Penn State, and South Carolina). Tucker also features three other players with football scholarship offers, including a LB (Tevin Holliman) that has an offer from Georgia State, the new football program that has DC John Thompson, who reportedly has been contacted about the DC job at LSU. 2008 GEORGIA 4A STATE CHAMPIONSHIP GAME 8 p.m. Friday The Georgia Dome
Re: Drayton Calhoun commits to LSU Drayton Calhoun's team is State Champs!!! Tucker won the 4A State Championship, defeating Marist 15-3. It is Tucker's first Championship in school history. On offense, Tucker had success with several players rushing the football, including Drayton Calhoun who had 47 yards rushing. The Tucker D held Marist to 71 total yards. Tucker head football coach Franklin Stephens celebrates his team's 15-3 win over Marist in the 4A Championship Game.
Re: Drayton Calhoun commits to LSU Tucker was team that didn't pass much this year (only 41 yards per game). Their offense relied primarily on their rushing attack (248 yards per game). Drayton Calhoun rushed for over 1,100 yards this season. http://www.ajc.com/services/content/printedition/2008/12/12/hsclassaaaa.html
