Saw LHP Troy Patton get the win in his AAA debut Friday nite against Omaha. He was impressive. Went 7 innings, gave up 4 hits, 1 run, 0 BB, 2 SO. Before coming up here, he was second in ERA in the Texas League pitching for the Hooks.
Was thinking about this thread when Tavares was batting last nite. The further this thing plays out, the more apparent is the mistake that purp made in the trade for Jennings. If an average fan like me could see this trade was gonna be a disasterous mistake, why the heck couldn't a MLB GM ? On the other hand, he wasn't really a GM.....
What was the achilles heel of the Astros offense this season? The leadoff spot. Put Tavares on the Astros this season and I think the Astros score a half run more on average, which might have been just enough to eek out another 10-12 wins. That would have put us in the race to win the division all the way until the end. Also, you give us Bucholz and Hirsh back in the starting rotation and who knows.
You two are exactly right. Islslt, please don't put it like that again. PLEASE. This team could have easily been right in the thick of things with a legit leadoff hitter, a marginal starter, and another versatile arm. You know, this trade is really spectacular. I rarely hate trades right from the start, but usually any trade turns out sorta OK. Like if Jennings got 14 wins or so. Obviously that didn't happen. But it's even more rare that a trade continues to taunt you so many times DURING THE SAME SEASON. I'm used to trades looking bad after a couple of years. Not horrible immediately and then only worse each consecutive month. At this rate, in three years, Hirsh is going to win a Cy Young, Willy T will become Vince Coleman, and Buccholz will be a 15 game winner or top middle reliever.
looks like he is long relief, which means we may see him if Morales doesn't last long in this next game.
Kinda like herpes, this trade just keeps on givin'. :hihi: And it smells worse today than this time yesterday (Rockies to the Series). I'm a Rockie fan today.
