If I remember right, he didn't do that great of job blocking either. The coaches have invested a lot of time and energy into this kid. This year he must perform. Otherwise, lets get some of the other kids involved. That said, I really do like his personality. He has a lot of character and has a great sense of humor, but we just need him to catch the ball!
Occasionally. However I thought he would be best suited staying in the slot and just learning how to catch the ball. He would be hell on wheels on short passes in the flats and over the middle if he could just run clean routes and catch the ball consistently.
Assuming Randle will be lining up at SE, that would leave the flanker position for Shepard. Hopefully they bunch him up and keep him off the LOS so he can create enough space to get Jefferson's attention. I do have a feeling he'll be set in motion frequently to keep him off the line and hopefully put his ass in the backfield a la Percy Harvin, or maybe that's just wishful thinking. He's nowhere near Percy's size and physicality level to consistently beat jams on the edge. Idk, this kid needs the ball and putting him farther away from it just doesn't seem logical.
They put him on the outside because of his speed, he will be able to stretch the defense vertically ...and if the defense ignores that they will chunck the deep one to him. Will he catch it.....that's another Question. I think their putting him through the devry henderson mole and see how well he fits it. Devery was a runinng back out of high school and as a freshmen at LSU.....then switched to reciever to utilize his speed......thats how I think they are invisioning sheppard.
