Nice article about former Tiger baseball player Ray Wright on NASCAR.com: Forgive Ray Wright for being glued to his television set in the basement of his home last week in Advance, N.C. He couldn't help himself. As a member of the 2000 national championship baseball team from Louisiana State University, he and a few fellow LSU fans in his neighborhood got together to watch the 2009 LSU Tigers march through the latest College World Series and do the same, defeating Texas 2 games to 1 in the final to claim the national title. Wright, now the 30-year-old strength and conditioning coach for Richard Childress Racing after spending some time playing in baseball's minor leagues following college, recently talked about his LSU past and the interesting path he took to his current job. Very good read. With all that happened in the 8th and 9th innings of that game against Stanford, it is easy to forget just how important that catch was. Don't forget, it was Ray Wright who hit a key homerun in the win againt Florida State, which advanced us to the championship game.
I watched this yesterday as well, and it then led me to the following one....19 seconds into it, you'll see the greatest home run swing and pose ever, IMO The Wright article was very enjoyable. Over the last decade, NASCAR pit crews have become heavily populated with ex-college athletes. Until you consider that a race tire on a rim weighs over 50 pounds, and a full 11-gallon gas can weighs close to 90, you don't appreciate how important physical conditioning is for these guys.
