it says a lot about the kid's character. how many other youths, if affected the same way, would have been able to keep their heads high and turn so many negatives into positives? not only that, but how do you not give up?

as an LSU fan, i'm proud to have this kid on the team!

Great read... Reminds me of the story about Mardy Gilyard a Cincinatti receiver last year lost his scholarship and had to work numerous jobs to pay tuition while sleeping out of his car... Heres to Williams may he have a great career at LSU!

Unbelievable. You won't read about it in the newspaper very often but there are good people on this earth. We should all keep a copy of this article around and anytime we feel like we have it rough, pull it out and read it.

    Armand Williams Story

an earlier version of this was pulled as it was "unauthorized". this nola.com version appears to be the authorized story. its a good read, and once again, shows the character of the young men on this team. hope you have a great year, mr. williams!

same information, but this time the writer just tried to use clever cliche's and catch-phrases to make it sound more like a feature story. when i had to write stories of this type, i used to just put down the facts like was done with the version that was pulled because that way the story tells itself. you don't need "fluff" with a story this great. to each his own, however... doesn't take away from the kid's struggle. :thumb:

well, it's also much nicer to his mother. the other portrayed her as pretty much abandoning the kid. this one shows it as she turned him over to others reluctantly. which now i can see why he would have been so upset with the other version, slamming his mom.

i guess. but to be fair i really didn't read that far into it. but i also didn't take the first one as slamming the mom at all. the situation "is what it is." i love my parents, and they provided well for me, but i would have JUMPED at the chance to be "raised" by someone more affluent. of course, i never, ever, ever had it "bad" financially at any point in my life. there are certain schools that i would have preferred to attend that would have prepared me better academically, and thus offered me better chances to attend a great university, but i can't complain.

the kid was moving around all over the place, that is never good. and he seems to have never complained either. kudos to the great people in slidell. sometimes parents have to "give up" their child for a while. i guess it's really no different than when a child goes off to a college since it provides for the child similar to how a parent would.

    :D

    still a great story.

I'm confused at what the "first one" was. The article Okie posted there is the exact same one LSUMASTERMIND posted two days ago in another thread here (which you responded to, JayB):
    "Article on Armand Williams"
    http://www.tigerforums.com/tigers-den/100902-article-armand-williams.html

So yeah, of course there is no difference between those two articles being that they are the same article. However, a few weeks ago, DandyDon featured a similar article on Armand Williams on his site (and it got re-posted on all the LSU forums like this one), and this is the one Okie is talking about that made his mom look bad, because it did make his mom look like a complete deadbeat. So yeah, it is nice to see that the Times Picayune dug into it to get the facts straight. The facts were very different in the Times Picayune article compared to the testimonial Dandy Don posted a few weeks ago (it was just sent to him by one of his readers). In the Times Picayune one, the mom looks like a very good mother. In the Dandy Don one, the mom looked like trash. There were other big differences too, but yes, the similarities in the two were that Armand is a very impressive person, and so is that teacher he had that took him into her home.

whoops. didnt see the other. i will merge. thanks for pointing that out.

the reposted dandy don one is what i was referring to as the previous article. so it is nice to see that the kid and his mom have a good relationship.
