Re: Arthur Cantrelle-RB (1968-1971)?? 1977 Rice at LSU. 77-0, 11 touchdowns, total domination of a football team. Carlos Carson's first five college catches were all for touchdowns, an NCAA record. Rice was the worst team I ever saw in Tiger Stadium.
Re: Arthur Cantrelle-RB (1968-1971)?? I remember the 0-3 loss at ND, my dad and I were sick about it. Then the vaunted Irish ventured into Tiger Stadium for a Saturday night televised contest. Casanova blanketed ND's all-american receiver Tom Gatewood all night, which my dad said every time that game was bought up. Bert Jones completed many passes to his cousin Andy Hamilton as the Tigers rolled to a 28-8 victory on national TV. I get chill bumps still remembering that game on TV watching with my dad. Here's a story about the 0-3 loss at ND in 1970. What a freakin defense we had, and Casanova almost saved the 0-0 tie but dropped an interception. http://www.nola.com/sports/t-p/index.ssf?/base/sports-27/116711439052420.xml&coll=1 I also remember in the 61-17 romp over Ole Miss, both Casanova and Craig Burns ran a punt back for a TD.
Re: Arthur Cantrelle-RB (1968-1971)?? The 0-3 loss to ND was a great game. I think we missed a field goal late in the 4th quarter, long but makeable, like 45 yds. The reason us old times wax nostalgic for that timeframe was that we felt we could step on the field with anyone, and on a given day win the game (like everyone will look back on the 2000-2009 decade, a special time). The defense in 69 was truly special.
Re: Arthur Cantrelle-RB (1968-1971)?? I was told that LSU lost one game that year (I think), and they were denied a bowl. If that's true... WTF!? No, I know I'll get older, but it seems that the older folks think that LSU was better or something back then. For example, you said earlier in this thread: When I asked my dad if he knew who Art Cantrelle was, he got really excited and went on to tell me about the 0-3 loss to Notre Dame, Casinova, etc. He still likes LSU now, but his passion, apparently, is not the same as it was. I guess it's like music. His favorite music is 70's rock, my grandparents like music from the 50's and 60's, and a friend who was born in '82 loves 80's music. They all still like music, but their favorite came from their most memorable time frame. I guess in 30 years, I'll still be pulling for LSU, but possibly without the same passion that I have today. We'll see.
Re: Arthur Cantrelle-RB (1968-1971)?? I believe that feeling is referred to as "nostalgia", i.e., a sentimental longing for the past.
Re: Arthur Cantrelle-RB (1968-1971)?? I think that was the year before when LSU was invited to the Cotton Bowl to play Texas before Notre Damn decided to rescind their policy of not playing in Bowl games. The Cotton Bowl then withdrew our invite so they could invite the f'in Domers. That was the 1970 Cotton Bowl when it was one of the Big 3 bowls. I've had a serious hatred of everything Notre Dame and everything Cotton Bowl ever since.
