Baxendale picked up his second consecutive save as the Razorbacks (5-1) completed a three-game sweep with a 7-6 victory at Baum Stadium. A crowd of 5,916 saw Arkansas jump out to a 7-0 lead after two innings, then watched as the Razorbacks had to fight off the Trojans (3-4) for a second consecutive day.

Baxendale retired the side in the ninth, the day after pitching two innings in relief Saturday. The righthander from Sylvan Hills made it look easy Sunday by retiring Troy on three ground balls to end the game.

“I like the way he attacks hitters,” Van Horn said. “He gets out there with a presence about himself, and he’s kind of fearless. “It’s really good to see because [the closer’s role] is something we’ve been trying to figure out a little bit.”

OXFORD — Drew Pomeranz finished one strikeout shy of tying a school and career record as the junior southpaw fanned 15 batters ….
Pomeranz (1-0) worked seven innings, allowing one run on four hits with no walks. The lone run came on a solo homer in the third inning by Mike Carson. Freshman Jordan Cooper closed out the final two innings, striking out three.
