I'm not saying that you don't need good players. I am saying that the popularity contest that recruiting has become is a total joke. For example, how many top 10 classes have Auburn and Oregon gotten in the last 5 years. (IDK about Oregon, but Auburn had 1--2010, and only two of those players are making a real impact: Newton and Dyer.) On the other hand, Texas is always in the top 5, and look at them this year. Here is another way to look at it: Russell Shepard was a top rated QB in 2009, but he obviously doesn't have a college arm. Some rating system. GEAUX TIGERS
I think the bottom line is that Les Miles needs a top 5 class to field a top 15 team. Rivals has Arky's last 4 classes ('07-'10) at 31, 36, 16 and 49. I realize that it's a subjective deal, but would we be happy with that?
les miles needs a coaching staff.....he has the talent...give this current LSU squad to a top notch coaching staff and LSU is easily undefeated and at worst no.2 in the nation...you can recruit good athletes every year...if you dont have the coaching staff,,its all for not....a good coaching staff can take average athletes and turn them to champions....a half ass coach will drive a team loaded with so called 5 and 4 star athletes into the ground....
The facts speak for themselves. There is a direct correlation to top 10 recruiting classes and BCS champions. There are threads here in the history that prove this. Of course upsets happen, but no team has won the BCSCG without top 10 recruiting classes, and usually top 5 for a few of the prior years.
No sheet Sherlock! However that's not an amazing discovery, that's something the whole world knows. Just imagine all that talent with a QB and an OC!
