I was just wondering how Arkansas was looking for next year with Mallet surely taking over as starting QB for Petrino's offense? Little Dick didn't look too bad either against us. Oh well, trying to get y'alls thoughts on a new subject

Well, as many of you have seen I am neighbors with a hard core pig fan.
The younger dick transferred because apparently Mallet is the greatest QB since Joe Montana.
Fact is Arkansas is going to be better next year (Much better) they always have a stellar running game and now they have the passing game.
Will the be SEC champs next year. No but they will be better and frankly I am sick of LSU losing to them ;-)
But yeh they will be better Mallet can play....

Frankly only Auburn has a question mark to improve. I think Bama caught a little lightning in a bottle this year with Auburn, Arkansas, Tenn AND LSU being really down this year. I think that has come and gone. Ole Miss will be pretty good next year as well.
Fact is I dont see anyone going undefeated next year, the parity in the west is going to be better then it ever was in the next few years.

    I concur on all points.

Arkansas's offense WILL be better. But how will their defense be? Petrino's teams are never known for their defenses. I think they will get outscored against LSU, Texas, Ole Miss, Florida, and possibly TxAM to go 7-5 and make a trip to Memphis.

The SEC West next year is going to be a war. Arky will be better, there is no question about it. The only question marks will be Auburn and Moo State. Anyone have a clue why Auburn is so hell bent on bringing the spread there ?

Because almost all of the top offenses are employing it. If you can successfully combine a spread offense with a good defense, you can really roll through some competition. See Florida for a good example.

It just seams odd for Auburn of all schools being they have always featured a power game. Guess they're trying to change with the times.

The power teams are all slowly becoming dinosaurs. I think the only team in the SEC successfullly running a power game right now is Georgia, and they just lost their power.

Edit: I had to add Bama. I think I tend to block them out of my thoughts a lot.

But here is my problem with Auburn going to the spread.
Yes I know times change but what is Auburn known for, the constant train of premier backs the produce (Just look at the NFL) and defense.
The whole identity for Auburn (And arguably even Bama) has been a POWER running game, ball control and a flat out hard hitting defense that smothers you.
I know a lot of teams are going to the spread but I think defenses will catch up soon (They are starting to now) just like the West Coast. Eventually the defense will catch up and what wins games is ball control and defense. Which Auburn for years has done VERY well.
    Just my 2 cents.

I agree...mostly. The only thing I disagree with is the assumption that ball control and the spread can't co-exist. LSU's hybrid version of the spread is quite effective at both scoring points and churning down the field.

Not to mention developing power backs like Hester and Scott.

I'll add that a run-pass, spread-option attack like Florida's would suit Auburn football very well.
