And I love it. K puts Battier on the team and Bowen and cuts Arenas because of his "injury." Whether Arenas is right or not, I like the fact that he speaks up. Team USA needs a pure shooter and a want to win attitude of Arenas. Hell, I'm sure Battier's flopping will cover that. I wish Arenas would go back to school and drop 84 on K.

Yea, I like it too. He obviously should be on the team, but not take Battier's spot. In fact, those two guys are just the kind you need in international competition.

Bowen will be about 52 years old by the time the Olympics roll around.

Yeah, you're prob. right about Battier. Bowen used to be the one of the best lock down guys ever. However, I watched him against Kobe the other night and Kobe took him baseline for a dunk every time. No telling how much of his edge he will lose come Olympic time.

battier is a better defender, better stand-up shooter, and better chemistry guy than Arenas, but with that being said, he is 100 times better than Heinrich (sp?) who was on the team.

arenas is a far better shooter in that he can create his own shot, and he can shoot on the run

but in terms of just catching the ball, and shooting it without a dribble, Battier is better.

    Gilbert is 39% from 3, battier 42%.

That Shane Battier sure can shoot.

I love when he drops 50 on a team. :dis:

    40 shots= a chance to score 50

    8 shots= a chance to score 10.

Shane knows his role on the rockets isn't to score.

Shane isn't an elite player because he can't create his own shot, but the percentages speak for themselves, my friend.

Arenas is one of those guys that wouldn't be a good player in a 3pt contest, b/c all of his shots have to come in the flow of a game.

Well logically when you pick and choose your shots your percentage will be much better. If Battier started jacking up even as little as 5 more shots per game, his percentage would inevitably go down.

What the coaches are looking for is chemistry. And you need someone who will do the dirty (defense and rebounding). And that's what Battier gives the team. Our recent history shows that putting a team of 25-30 ppg type players just doesn't get it done. Arenas offers little or no defense.

To say Battier is a better stand up shooter is just plain wrong. If Arenas shot 15-18 foot open jumpers all day long as Battier does (along with layups, junk basket put backs, etc) then I contend Arenas would have a better shooting percentage. Add to the fact usually the worst defender of the opponent's team plays Battier and the best defender will usually be put up against Arenas and his high scoring ass, then it's not even something to consider. Just gotta keep it in perspective. Battier offers very little offensively. And that's perfect, cuz we don't need him in that capacity.

that is why i offered 3 pt fg %, not FG shooting.

this has nothing to do with 15-18 footers.

per game, shane makes 2.1 out of 4.8 for a 42.9% clip.

Arenas makes 3.1 out of 7.9 for a 38.6% clip.

    4.8 times 43 is a little over 200 3s..

if shane can make 92 or so 3s out of 200, it's safe to say he is a pretty damn good shooter.

you can't make the arguement that Gilbert only shoots so low, b/c of the number of 3s he takes, b/c he has been in the 35-38% range all throughout his career, whether he shot 2 a game, or 8 like he does now.
