Are you upset that Les Miles chose Anthony Jennings as our starting QB?

I don't get the logic either, Hawker. Mettenberger was one of the better QBs we've had. To say we're gonna run a pro style offense, but we only want a dual threat QB is stupid IMO. Would we turn down another Mettenberger? I hope not.

How you can make a blanket statement like that makes me scratch my head... Mettenberger wasn't really any better than Jennings until his senior year, and yet you make statements about his future using words like "NEVER". How do you know that? No way to say that with certainty at this point..

What we saw from Mettenberger in his first 4 games was far different than what we have seen with Jennings. And that was with Mettenberger in his first year at LSU vs Jennings who is in his 2nd year at LSU (i.e., knowing the system). The issue with Jennings is that he has the ability to use his legs. It's hurting him in the pocket as he has happy feet far too often. He can't pull the trigger and he knows he can try to escape the rush if need be (again, this has actually worked against him). Harris is much more decisive with his throws and they get there a lot faster.

My favorite pass of the night was the short pass over the middle on a crossing Williams by Harris. He led him perfectly, which allowed him a lot of yards after the catch. Those passes requiring more touch and more accuracy (i.e., leading him) are the ones people should take note of. We know Harris can make every throw imaginable. For him to show us he can make that kind of throw is going to make him a great QB one day.

Because it is clear, easy to see. Myself and @tirk as well as @islstl all see it. Not bagging on the kid just calling it like it is. He is 2.0, same skill set, different attitude of course and I'm sure he is trying but pound for pound they are about the same and that unfortunately is about as good as he will get.

He's been MIA as of late, but Shane has personally conversed with him about Jennings.

I don't think it's hard to see that Jennings' ceiling is fairly low. About 7 feet high. Harris has a cathedral ceiling above his head. To put it in comparative terms.

You people do at least see that, correct?

Unless LSU turns back the clock to 2011 with a dominating D and special teams with a running game that is nearly unstoppable, Jennings will not be able to win games in the SEC on any kind of consistent basis.

LSU's offense scored 9 points against a "decent" defense in 3 1/2 quarters of SEC play under Jennings last night. Attempt #1 was a complete failure for the LSU signal caller.

What will happen when he faces a Florida or Auburn defense on the road, or Ole Miss and Alabama (which have to be considered the 2 best defenses in the SEC right now)? This was one of his easier tests. That's disconcerting to say the least.

Well, I certainly appreciate everyone's opinion. That's what makes this site worth visiting. I am also high on Brandon Harris. He has a strong arm and throws a tight spiral. However, I disagree that Jennings is doomed to be the 2nd coming of Jordan Jefferson. What I've seen from Jennings is a lot like I'd expect from a young QB with his level of experience.

While I would like to see more of Brandon Harris, I suspect he would suffer from many of the same growing pains that Jennings has. Believe me, I don't want another JJ. However, it's way too early to say that Jennings is JJ Part Deux and that he can "never" get the job done. Frankly I think either of these 2 guys could be developed into at least decent SEC QBs given a little time. Furthermore, I also think that either or both of these guys are gonna struggle for awhile before they hit their stride and become really good players. If a guy struggles for 3 years and never gets noticeably better, then I'll compare him to JJ, but not before...

We said the same thing about JJ for two years. It never surfaced.

I haven't seen a single NFL throw from Jennings. Harris has shown a few.

IMO, Harris might have more "freshman" mistakes, but his ceiling is way higher.

I respectfully disagree with your assessment. It does appear to me that Harris probably has a greater upside, but I think your assessment of Jennings is overly harsh and premature. I think we would've gotten our asses kicked yesterday with either of the two young QBs playing. I don't think Harris would've looked as good against the 1st team defense and a pass rush. If Harris is named the starter going forward (which I wouldn't oppose, because he is an obvious talent), I expect he will struggle in SEC play to read defenses, go through his progressions, and run the team much like Jennings has/will.

I would add that when you get stuffed on 4 straight plays from the 2 yard line, that was a failure of the entire offense, not just the signal caller.
