Are you that guy ... Who is miserable when LSU wins, because it was not a blowout? Who thinks that because LSU has top 10 recruiting classes, they should be SEC champions every year, even though several SEC teams are usually in the top 10? Who thinks that the ref's are always pulling for the other team? Who thinks that LSU gets no respect from ESPN? Who thinks that LSU gets no respect in the polls? Who thinks that an 8 win season is such a disappointment that the coach should be fired? Who hates anyone who wears school colors from another SEC school? Who doesn't care that the game is played by teenagers, not paid professionals? Who makes it miserable for the rest of us to be around in the stadium? You don't want to be that guy.
A little. A little. No, no, no. A little. A little. Not really, not really. So, you're mostly right. Are you that fan who goes to the game to get drunk, socialize, and have a generally complacent attitude when we are just scraping by?
Are you that guy that can't remember when just making any bowl game was a big deal? Are you that guy who actually believes they can make better coaching decisions than the coach? There's a fine line between fan forum griping (which is what fan forums are for) and full-up, manic depressive negativism. OK - the line's not all that fine. But some folks just can't seem to stay away from the dark side. I believe that was the man's point. And I sat next to one of those miserable bastards at the North Texas game last year. I was thinking critical thoughts. He was screaming them out loud, every play, and making us all more miserable than he was. And he was sober. Come to think of it, maybe that was his downfall.
I was next to this guy Saturday. "Our Defense f***ing sucks. Our offense f***ing sucks. God damnit this is f***ing terrible."
So far we are a work in progress, it is hard to be too critical, but at the same time, if I weren't an LSU fan I would not be very impressed. Neither would most of the purple and gold brigade. I feel like this game against ULL is timed perfectly for us, and then we get another shot to test the waters against MooU before the first big SEC matchup/payback game. If we see a repeat of last season, I'll be ready to start checking resumes in case 2010 continues that trend. But I can see us continuing to improve to damn fine status this season, which really means that, in my mind, this is a very critical season.
Were you sitting behind me?? Should have introduced yourself! That guy you just described was right in my ear all night. It was kinda funny, actually. When Shep got body slammed, he claimed it was illegal to pick him up and throw him down like that. Then, when Shep got hit and fumbled, he claimed they led with the helmet. But mostly he complained about the play calling...loudly and with vim & vigor.
This season, yeah, I could accept that, just like I did last season. But if it doesn't improve over the next two seasons... no.
