How was this not already illegal. Kudos to the administration for taking care of something that should have been taken care of years ago.

President Obama signs into law ban on cell phones in federal prisons - CNN.com

Edit: Okay so I'm sitting here thinking about it and hopefully it was always against the rules in prisons to have cell phones but now it is actually illegal. Still probably should have been a law a long time ago considering the plotting that can go on with cell phones.

even if it was against prison regulations, it did need to be prohibited by law, including the part about it being illegal to smuggle one to someone.

too bad common sense and bipartisanship doesnt work in other areas.

well, gangs get drugs smuggled in, they run the prisons, which gang runs the prison depends on the location, that brings money, money to pay off guards to smuggle in drugs, and cell phones. they won't go away, this will still happen.

Or in some cases gang members are the gaurds. That's one thing the prison system is trying to work on. Learning more about gangs for background checks and such.

Cell phones are definitely a problem and this won't stop them but at least it's a little more of a deterrent. Especially to guards and others smuggling them in who could go to jail.

I am no bleeding heart, but even prisoners have a right to receive mail from family. Trying to stop that would not pass supreme court scrutiny.

I have a problem with this phrase here. Prisoners have rights to meals and beds.
