This game was pretty significant in terms of recruiting leverage. I've said this before, if Saban could significantly break into recruiting strong out of the Atlanta metro talent pool, Bama would emerge as a top national program again. Tuscaloosa is only 170 miles from ATL. So far, it hasn't happened yet. For some unknown reason, being around Bama fans just makes me want to puke up my guts.
I am happy Florida won because I picked them on TF Pick'em (as did everyone). So I guess you can say I am happy Bama lost. But it has nothing to do with Saban or Bama per se. I am glad Bama's gridiron fortunes have returned. I am just sorry it had to be Saban who did it.
I'm more happy that Saban lost. If they had won, I would have to stop watching espn...not that i watch it all that much anymore anyway. I really hate Fla and Meyer, but still glad they won.
The question is: was this year a fluke, or is Bama truly back? Will the "new" traditional powers of the SEC West (LSU and AU) stay meek, or do the Tigers of the West come roaring back soon?
My opinion, Bama is back, this season was not a fluke. The SEC was down this year, but Bama had a good team. Saban is recruiting well, they will stay strong. Auburn took the gas. With Bama sucking up the Alabama high school talent, Auburn may not come back, except on occasions. LSU is not that far off the mark. I repeat, our biggest mistake was failure to recruit wisely at the QB position 3 to 4 years ago. We have NO Sr. or Jr. QB, and only 1 walked on Soph QB. That's a pathetic state of affairs, and that is Les Miles FAULT. I like Les, but he made a strategic mistake (did Jimbo sabotage the program on the way out?) 3 or 4 years ago that has now caught up with us. I hope he learns a lesson. LSU can get back in the race quickly, like next season. JJ at qb, with Lee, and Shep to back him up, I think we'll be ok. I hope Lee begins to see the field better and develops so he stops throwing the picks, but I don't think he'll be an all american candidate. You can't just hope against hope. He's got 3 more years, and I expect him to get better, but starting from where he is, I don't think he leaves LSU as a star, but there is a 20% chance he could. Crowton likes a qb with more mobility, as it puts more pressure on the defense, so I think he will go with JJ. We also need some help at linebacker, and we could get back in the deal pretty quick. Ole Miss may be in the picture for a while.
