Are the coaches trying to convince themselves that Russell Shepard

Chris Garrett is light years ahead of Shepard on the QB depthchart. I think Shepard will be our #3 WR next year.. and our #2 RB.

At 6-4 235 pounds why haven't we tried to see if he works out then? Not like we've been setting the field on fire this year, at this point imo, it's sad we're not doing everything in our power to win games. I know I know, he's a freshman and not ready... but hell apparently that's all 5-6 QBs on our roster. Might as well give each and everyone of them a chance and see who does the best. I find it hard to believe JL is more ready then Garrett.

Another thing, since we obviously do not play underclassmen without having our arms twisted... how do we end up next season once everyone is gone?

We lose Dickson, Scott, KW, Holliday, Lafell on offense. That's a ton of experience and weapons gone from the arsenal. We'll still have very inexperienced QBs, even more green WRs minus Toliver, and basically no seasoned TEs... I see the offense scoring even less points per game next season unless we make some drastic changes to our way of thinking.
The only real bright side to next season is our defense should be even better imo... which will keep us in games to some degree... but if we can not sustain drives, could next season be a real down year?

It's college football, we lose seniors every year and new guys step up. It happens that way to all of our opponents, too. Florida loses Tebow. There is no shortage of talent we have recruited in the top-5 for a decade now.

The QB's will be juniors and not inexperienced at all. We are loaded at WR, the loss of Lafell will not hurt us. The young offensive linemen will be ready to play, the young tight ends will be ready to play and Ridley, Shepard, Murphy, Ford and possibly Seastrunk will be at running back. 2010 looks good with a better schedule, too.

You also thought J. Lee was going to "light it up" against Tech and cause a big QB battle come spring. The only thing he might have lit up last night was a joint before going in the game. Kidding... Hey, I was trying positive thinking and hoping he could get around 200 yards against Tech. We definitely had the receivers open, we just couldn't get it to them. I don't know if it's an issue of major nerves or if he just doesn't know how to adjust the touch on his passes. But anyway...

    J. Lee was light years ahead of JJ last season (at least that seemed to be what the coaches thought) before he got his shot?

Shep. would probably need the most developing as far as passing goes because he only started playing QB like in his sophomore year in high school. But that's what coaches get paid for. He also has the biggest upside. It's not like the guy CAN'T play any QB. He apparently did decent in the spring game (big difference...I know) and Miles kind of went on and on about him. And that was against most of our 1st stringers. It doesn't mean much, but it shows that there is some kind of potential there for him.

I personally just want to see him on the field at whatever position. It can make it a lot harder for defenses to scheme against us with him in there. And he has our longest gain in three years. That's enough for me.

Agree..coaches definitely dropped the ball then he came in early and they havent done there job and just tried to please the fans and let him run a few times instead of developing him as a QB and not some easy predictable running qb. Maybe LSU needs a QB coach because they really can't say they really develop QBs.

I'll play devil's advocate. While I was disapointed in his performance and was wondering why I even thought he should have been given a chance earlier you have to remember he is still shaking off the demons of last season. Booing him when he does the right thing by throwing the ball away when he no other option was assinine. He did throw some pretty good passes and engineered TD drives. It was his first start and to me he looked no different than Jefferson did in his 1st 4 games. To be successful you need some time to get accoustomed to the speed of the game as opposed to practice. Timing is another thing that comes when you have more time on the field. Some of those overthrows were obviously missed patterns whether Lee was throwing to the wrong spot or the receivers were running the wrong route. Time with the 1's helps with that. The thing that is glaring is that he did have 7 starts last season so getting his game legs should have been a series...

Remember, like Jordan, Jarrett is a 19 year old kid playing a game. Lets keep that in mind when these kids get on the field they are just that, kids. They get enough crap from their peers at school...they don't need it from grown men.

Shepard has paid enough dues to be given a whole drive to manage, I think. Don't throw him to the wolves, but give him a shot, especially in the red zone.
