Are football helmets popping off more than they used to?

A little bored, given the bye week... watching the Cincy/Marshall game (I'm only into the 2nd quarter at this point, thanks to the wonder that is Tivo, so no game spoilers please!), and someone's helmet just popped off. I don't recall that happening very often at all in the past, but lately (last few years) it seems like it happens multiple times a game.

Most of the time it is the players with dreadlocks.

players don't wear both buttons on their chin strap, also.

    that doesn't help.

I hadn't noticed that but now that you mention it, LSU knocked Armanti Edwards' helmet off at least twice.

I think they said he had a faulty strap on his helmet, or something.

I thought it was a redesign on helmet straps that the failing force was lowered so the helmet comes off instead of the player's head yanking to the side.

    I had not heard that.

But I do know the refs are forever telling guys to button em up on the sidelines.
