Yep, and he got the advice from...of all people...BOBBY BOWDEN. Bowden basically told Osborne how to win national titles. And he listened.
Probably sounded something like this: You know Tom, dadgumit, you may want to give up on this crazy notion that your white boys are ever going to run down all our track stars.
the main change was switching from the clunky 5-2 defense that most teams in the Big 8 were using to the modern 4-3 defense that Miami and Florida State were beating Nebraska with
The Big XII guys are saying the same thing about the offenses in the SEC. But Defense apparently does win championships.
That actually happened when they played us the following year. Not against UF. Troy Smith was in the NFL when we played tOSU for the crystal.
As much of a cop-out as this is, we could easily say the same thing. I don't think we even broke 100yds passing. Oregon just got manhandled in all phases of the game, resulting in a perception that they "didn't play their best game". No one "plays their best game" when they get the shit beaten out of them. I like you a lot, GDF, but it seems an awful lot like you're just messing with us in this thread.
I like you too, sometimes you're posts are in my face, but you're not mean spirited, and being direct works fine with me. "Your D-line was sorta ok I guess",.. Yes, here I was messing with you. "You didn't get our best game" ,.. I think LSU would have beaten the Ducks 6 or 7 times out of ten,.. but no you did not see the Ducks playing their best game. As far as getting the shit beat out of us,.. well, I actually think we slightly outplayed you guys in the first half. The Ducks made a nice long drive to take the lead with maybe five minutes left in the half, and It was looking like the game was turning Oregon's way. Then LSU responded with a key drive which we couldn't stop, this might have been the decisive factor in the game, because we couldn't stop that power drive,.. and that might have set the tone for the second half. We won't ever know though, because in the third quarter Oregon's heart was ripped out by turnovers. After the last turnover score, the Ducks seemed shell shocked, and for a while our O looked helpless and confused. I was disappointed by our response/attitude in that third quarter,.. it's the only time I've seen a Chip Kelly team look beaten with time left on the clock. We recovered enough to save face in the forth quarter, but when the score became 31-13, and we didn't quickly respond,.. well, it was game over, you win. That's about as fair as I get.
Thanks for posting, GDF. That game in Arlington was, in a nutshell, everything a guy could want from "college football"-- two great teams, intense spectacle, a superb venue, a national audience, clean football between two teams (and their coaches) who respected each other; heck, even the uniform were a perfect offset to each other! Of course, it did help that they were not exactly cross-town rivals throughout the season, LOL! Let's have two great seasons this year! GEAUX EAUX -- GEAUX TIGERS
