 Speaking of Shep, that dude deserves great things at LSU the way he's recruiting...maybe Shep can convince him to give up those QB aspirations and come be his go-to receiver...since another Bastrop receiver (D-Lo) doesn't seem to want the job...
That's a better way of looking at it. As I stated earlier . . . Most coaches honestly recruit the player at the position that they feels he's best suited for, but guarantee that they'll let him have the opportunity to compete at his favored position. If he can beat the other recruits there quickly--great! If he can't, then for the good of the player and the team, he moves to where he can get quicker playing time and help his team and his career. Letting him linger as a reserve QB for a couple of years when he could be starting at WR helps no one.
LSU will have 5 scholarship and one preferred walk on QBs next fall. We will not keep six, and therefor Randle will not play QB at LSU. Doesn't really matter how well he develops this year or how badly he wants to play the position. Unless we lose two QBs this year, there simply will not be enough reps in practice to support the development of that many guys. If Randle decides he wants to play QB in college(I don't see it), he will have to go somewhere else.
awright, question for ya bro: just say hypothetically, RR gets offered by Bama at QB and LSU at WR...what is your opinion on what his decision would be? also, another hypothetical situation: RR gets offered QB at a lower D1 school i.e. LA Tech, Memphis, Central Florida as a QB and LSU offers as a WR, where does he go? again your opinion. one more thing, in RR's inner circle, are they taking into consideration which schools that are offering him a shot at QB are being truthful and realistic or is it just a separation of which ones offer QB and which ones offer WR? I mean ole Petey could come out with a QB offer just to get him to come to SC and then not even give him a shot. I think Les will play it out just like the Dude says in his post and it will be a straight up offer for him to play WR. thanks in advance
He's gotten all the offers he's going to get, which pretty much means he's gotten an offer from everyone. All of his offers are for WR. I don't think any school will make him an offer as a QB. I think most schools will offer him a shot to compete at QB if he has a considerable level of development during his senior year. It's known that he's athletic enough to run the spread. They know he has the arm strength to get the ball down the field. What they don't know is how well he'll adjust to the different defensive fronts he'll see, or how well he adjusts when the LB teeing off on his blindside is 6'3 235 instead of 5'10 190 that many high school LB's are. Bama, or even Michigan, Texas, Miami, SC, and any other big program you name won't necessarily land him if they say, hey you can compete at QB. That's not what I'm saying. On the flipside, any school that tells him he won't have an opportunity to compete probably will alienate him. He likely won't commit anywhere until after the season because his senior year at QB is important to him. It's the position he's always wanted to play. He wants to find out for himself how serious he should be about the pursuit of a QB opportunity. The talent level at QB in Bastrop the past three years made it impossible for him to find out, save for 2 games in 2006, when he had one great game and one not so great game. I certainly don't disagree with other posters who say he should compete if he's good enough and is given the opportunity, but if the competition is fruitless, he should certainly concentrate on the position he's considered the best in this recruiting class at...WR. No argument there. I also hope no coach is that heartless that they would offer the kid a chance to play QB and then not follow through. You basically ruin a great talent by doing that. If you look at who's recruiting him the hardest, it's all trustworthy guys when it comes to their players. They may not be 100% loyal to the school (i.e Saban), but they're loyal to their players, almost to a fault. Les Miles certainly falls in that group along with Saban, Randy Shannon, Pete Carrol etc. They know they're as much a father away from home as they are a coach. BUT, the problem I have with him considering schools like Michigan, Bama, and Miami is none of those three are 100% stable, unlike LSU and USC. LSU and USC are both stable in terms of strength of the program, the coach, the relationship with the public, etc. Michigan...new coach, huge pressure to beat Tressel. Bama, Saban is a great coach, but he's such a nomad, can a recruit really trust him to be around four years from now? Miami..Coach Shannon might not even make it through this season... I know it's Miami and they're a factory, but they're along way from successful despte the droves of NFL caliber players. No way this kid goes lower tier just for a shot at QB. Visibility is important too. The ultimate goal is playing on Sunday and visibility is his best shot at that. Sorry for rambling. Hope I got my point across.
Nah, the NFL scouts are all over the place and can spot a great athlete in any small program. So long as Randle plays D-1 ball he'll be plenty visible enough to get drafted if his skills are good enough.
