I wouldn't worry too much about him. He will be a Tiger and his future is at WR no matter how well he does at QB this year IMO. Especially if he is thinking long-term.
I'm not a doctor, but when did anyone say he should or shouldn't get a shot at QB? I thought it was more than known by everyone that he will be playing WR at the next two levels.....b/c that kids got NFL written all over him if he stays healthy.
Well, you don't have to be a doctor, but it helps to be from Bastrop...like me... I admit to having insider information, but I'd never steal the kids thunder and disclose anything about what school he prefers...and I do know... I will say the kid does and always has wanted a chance to play QB. Had it not been for the arrival and emergence of one Randall Mackey, we would probably never know how great he is at his level as a WR. If he's able to have a great year with relatively new and ordinary talent around him at the receiver position, don't discount his desire to play QB at the next level. It's not like he doesn't have the size, talent, or the IQ to be successful. His smarts are a big part of the reason he's so coveted. A great kid, a great talent, and a great student is invaluable at this stage when so much of today's talent does not apply themselves in the classroom. He's also smart enough to know when to fold em if QB isn't working out the way it needs to...
I'm having difficulty visualizing Randle playing QB at a major Div 1 school next year. He may do well his senior year at the position, but it's a bit late and the learning curve is fairly steep. At any rate, he won't play or be recruited as a QB at LSU.
I doubt Miami says "hey come and play QB for us". This will die out during the season and late into the recruiting year.
You never know with the QB situation at the U this year, I will update you, I plan on going to a few of their home games. Care to join me?
LSU understands his possible desire to play QB. That is why he was at the QB spot almost the full time at last LSU camp. I do not see him at QB at the next level either but if he wants a shot to compete at that position for LSU, I think LSU will let him take a stab at it.
I would but I work weekends. Possibility of a job change that would permit me to go, I will keep you posted.
I disagree. They let him play that position in order to help him since he has to play it in high school. It's in everyone's best interest if he is successful his senior year. I disagree here too. I don't think our coaches are a bunch of ogres but I just don't see the qb slot for him. There are only so many reps for qb's in spring and summer and we have already recruited two top qb's for the same class. We will have 5 scholarship qbs next year. I don't see having 6 of them. Just my opinion, but if he comes to LSU, he will play WR.
Ambition is fine as long as it is pragmatic. If he's planning for the long term, he needs to start playing his natural NFL position as soon as possible. He's likely not a prototype NFL quarterback but he is a prototype reciever. Herb Tyler could have been an NFL running back if he had played RB in college. But LSU had a need and they played him at QB for four years. The NFL couldn't use running quarterbacks. He got a free-agent shot at RB, but without the experience and track record, he was an early cut.
