And for which someone appropriately said at the time: "They ought to take the money for those damn things out of his pocket and burn them in a bonfire when the game is over."

This might be a photoshop job (appears to be an LSU home game) but it gives and idea of what the purple pants would look like:

Dinardo did like to change things up. He got the rule changed for his first season, 1995. Here is how I remember the sequence.

1995 Kentucky: gold helmets, white jerseys, purple pants. This was the first time since before 1950 that LSU had not worn gold pants. The rumor around the program at the beginning of the season was that he would pull out purple pants to reflect the Colorado unis when he was there. He had already introduced black pants to Vandy, and the team had switched to purple shorts for some of their practice uniforms. The purple pants had no stripe on them and had the helmet tiger logo on the front of the left hip. The tigers lost the game in a very ugly fashion with Melvin Hill at QB, and the pants were never worn again (the HoF used to have one pair in it, but I haven't been there in years). Pictures from that game are probably the rarest of all Tiger photos--does anyone have one?

1996 Vandy: Gold helmets, gold jerseys, white pants: See picture above. Note the white numbers on the jersey. This was apparently the first time since the Florida game in 60 that LSU wore gold jerseys, which in the old days had the shoulder stripes.

1997 Notre Dame I-Bowl: White Helmets, gold jerseys, white pants. The numbers on the jerseys had a bigger drop shadow. ND was designated the home team for the game and wore blue, but LSU decided to introduce the white helmets and wanted to do so with the gold jerseys. I don't think LSU had ever wore white helmets or white pants before. Interestingly enough, a big deal was made at this year's SC-UCLA game that both teams wore colored jerseys and that it would cost SC a time-out. I do not remember LSU being charged a time-out though.

1998 Florida: Gold helmets, gold jerseys, white pants: Spurrier was upset over the loss the year before and tried to play a head game with the Tigers. Florida wore white jerseys and won the game. The LSU gold jerseys were different in that the numbers were purple and much easier to read. In 99, Spurrier wanted to force the Tigers to wear dark jerseys in Tiger Stadium, but the agreement for all SEC teams to allow the home team to wear what they want prevented him from doing so. Florida won anyway.

Saban put an end to this foolishness with the plan previously noted.

It's photo shop, I've seen a photo of the purple pants. They had them with white jerseys and it was a putrid purple not a bright one like the jerseys. I don't even know if they had stripes on the pants, if I recall correctly, they didn't. However, if they were to get pants that looked like your picture, I wouldn't mind seeing an all purple uniform with Gold helmets, but only for like a one time thing.

I seem to recall the yellow/gold jerseys were also a carry over from the 96 baseball team that won the CWS in those gold jerseys on Warren Morris walk off HR, bottom of the ninth. I get a chill just typing this.
