Is Gus the only coach that didn't leave Auburn after last year?

this feels tainted like when saban hired kiffin. the chief at least felt right and was proven correct.

this feels dirty. my gut says no. the sec is such an incestuous bunch even moreso than most coaches. lets leave the incest for the state of alabama once this fails.

    Yes, strictly a "Recruiting" hire.

He was co-OC and WR coach at Auburn.

Have any of yall seen Auburn's Offense the last few years? (Dreadful)

How many great receivers has he developed at Auburn? (None)

It's difficult though, to develop WR's with no QB that can consistently get the ball to them.

Miles just hired JJ to replace FW as the "Great Recruiter" on the staff.

Would have preferred a great technical WR coach that can actually teach.

Can't possibly be any worse than Ball though and a better recruiter, so it's an upgrade......................

That's not going to happen with Craig.

You just hired JJ, so why not bring in a great technical WR coach that can really teach these guys how to hang onto the ball when the lights come on!

DC is a former Spread QB that should be coaching QB's in a Spread Offense.

An upgrade over Ball, but certainly not the "Homerun Hire" that so many of the little program worshipping cheerleader types are proclaiming it to be.

It's been mentioned more than once in this thread; it's not a coaching hire, it's a recruiting hire. In my opinion, he's not any different than Lance Thompson. He can get the signatures.

Context: It pissed me off when Saban hired Thompson for the second time. The guy has the morals of a snake. He was "released" from the UA staff the second time for the very same thing he was the first time: he's a whore dog.

With Craig, I know how he recruits. He's not your Rodney Garner type of recruiter. He's to college recruiting ... well, think Al Sharpton, think your democratic candidates playing a race game. In the scope of today's society, he's divisive. In the scope of how he'll mesh with a staff, he's divisive. When any recruiter starts playing race cards with teens ... I tend to categorize them as a piece of shit.

These aren't things I'm just making up. He spent one year at South Alabama until Joey Jones learned how he was recruiting kids in the Mobile area—straight from the horses mouth. I know how he recruited guys like Jamies Winston. What he pitched Winston and his dad came straight from his grandmother with whom JW lived. I know how divisive he's been on Auburn's staff.

I don't envy this hire. In the end, I look at the whole thing as Auburn is likely getting an upgrade with WR coaching.

On the other hand, he's not illiterate. He's read the writing on the wall down there on the Plains.

It does take a special talent to teach a guy to run downfield and then wait for a deflection. It's a hard thing to practice. ;)

I'd like to say something witty about the lack of a need for a receiver coach in the Les Miles offense. Let's all pretend I did and save me the trouble!

Again, it's not like Les wants a guy to come in and teach guys route running. He wants a recruiter from Alabama to steal away Alabama players. We don't throw the ball anyway, why do we need a great receivers coach? I'd be happier with a quarterback coach. A guy who will do nothing but spend time with our qb's working on mechanics and footwork and reading defenses.

What are you talking about? We just need to keep recruiting top athletes, and we'll win 10 games. No need to coach them up. Our goal simply is to win, not get better as players and as a team.
