Maybe that's not exactly what he thinks.. just sayin. Could be a kid named Chris Garrett would have something to say about that. Call me crazy, but it's a well known fact that he's got the best arm on the team. If he develops like they're hoping, it wouldn't surprise me at all to see him leading the offense at some point. Not to mention Jefferson will be here for a while too still.. Shep will work at QB and will be used in key situations at that position, but I don't see him being "the" guy at QB barring someone getting hurt. Not that it couldn't happen, but I think they've got other plans for his running ability. I suspect he can catch in traffic too... I know this.. wherever he plays, it's gonna be fun watching him develop. He's a natural.
Very good discussion. Just one comment: How freakin awesome is it that the program has gotten to the point where THIS is what we're worried about? How to best utilize too much talent instead of not enough? Had to get it out of my system, carry on.:LSU231:
I think it will be similar to what we saw with Flynn Russell and perrilloux he last few years, minus someone getting kicked off. :geaux:
Well, one would think. But I don't think they're going to put a true freshman out there to take snaps regularly in a game unless they don't have any other option. Right now, there's Jefferson and Lee. So they're going to groom Garrett to learn the playbook, make reads correctly, etc.. Unless of course he's just better than Jefferson and Lee by September... I don't see that happening though. Surely, we all saw the same thing with regards to what happens when someone gets put out there that isn't ready.
LSU Notes: A few LSU players have new positions | shreveporttimes.com | The Times "SHEPARD TO MOVE AROUND: There was an incorrect headline and story concerning incoming freshman quarterback Russell Shepard in a newspaper on Thursday. The headline said, “Shepard to start career as 'quarterback only,'” and the story misquoted Miles." "During a speech to the Baton Rouge Rotary Club last week, Miles said Shepard may have a better chance to play at a position other than quarterback." "We believe in our hearts that he can be a quarterback, but I don’t know if that’s the fastest way to the field,” Miles said. “So it’s going to be interesting how he fares this year and how many snaps we get him. I tell you one thing, with the ball in his hands, it’s dangerous." Story debunked...
Don't sweat it. You know deep down in your Tiger soul you knew Miles wasn't going to squander such a talent as Shep.
