:hihi:<always the that emtion, now I get to use it.:hihi: I thought about adding "on the field" But I didnt think it was nessacary. I dont know if those players were used in the back up role like RP was behind Flynn.
For all you RS doubters, here again is the video of his Barry Sanders style moves. He has got to be on the field for as may plays as posible YouTube - Russell Shepard Highlight Video Look for CLM to put in the Wild Tiger offense. Vince Young at Texas was a poor man's Russell Shepard
*sigh*... Again...EVERYONE looks great in HS. College is a whole 'nother ball game...literally. There's a GREAT highlight vid of J-Lee throwing for 400 yards per game in HS...throwing fewer picks in his two years starting in HS than he did in 8 games last year in college. Are you seeing my point? Go find a highlight vid of Richard Murphy and you'll see the same moves you saw in that vid of RS. He should redshirt. Playing him before he is ready would be the biggest waste of talent that LSU has ever known.
I love the way he sets up his downfield blockers to clear the way. He ain't just relying on his own speed and cuts.
Shepard has to be on the field as often as possible. He can catch a bubble screen. He can perform an end around. He can run an option play at QB. He can do the fake run and throw (ala Perrilloux). Even if he serves as a decoy on plays (which is inevitable), he will be a force to be reckoned with on the field. He will NOT redshirt.
I'm of the opinion that if a player can positively effect the outcome of a game, you put him in. Period. See Travis Daniels.
I don't think Shep gets reshirted, nor do I think he should. I know everyone looks great in their highschool footage, but not like this guy. Not to mention, from what little I saw of him at the 1st spring scrimmage, he'll continue to do it at the college level.. Honestly, and this may be just me, I can't remember seeing someone come in straight out of highschool early, and move like he did against a veteran SEC defensive line.. All they had to do for a tackle was put 1 hand on him, and they had trouble getting even that.. Granted, they couldn't go at him full speed and tackle him, but he was spectacular. He also showed great poise and decision making. He's one of those that the game just slows down for. Definitely won't be a waste of talent to play him this year. He will be a clutch player, and I suspect we'll see more of him than people think, even if it's not throwing or taking snaps. See Also: Early Doucet
I'm all for this. If we want him to be a QB, then we should do whatever it takes to help his development. I don't want to throw him any token touches as a "gadget guy" when we've already shown we tend to mishandle these types of plays/players (see the utilization of Trindon Holliday the last two seasons). If Miles thinks he's our future at QB, then why not let him spend all his time there and get moving on his development?
