He will start out at QB and that was the position he had his best running plays from during spring practice, that is where is comfort level still resides. Either way he will be used at a number of positions in the fall and the staff will figure out which plays from which sets work best. As for the Loston comments it is coach speak and not that misleading. It is the type of injury that will not stop him from playing for now without surgery but if no surgery happens then he could have lingering issues in the long-run. Might as well get the surgery done, let it heal for a 6 or so weeks, and then throw him out there. We don't want this injury to be an issue when he is a Junior or Senior.
its hard to learn a playbook - especially if you have only been here for six months. i would imagine miles wants him to know the offense first and then he'll move on from there. we'll probably see a lot of new stuff next spring and some small stuff this fall.
This is CLM's team, and regardless of what I'd like to see as a fan, I'm gonna trust he will do whats best for the team and RS. I'm gonna trust his call on this one.
I've said here since the kid signed he will be a QB and a QB only as a freshman. Later when he gets more of a grasp over things, he can maybe expand his role. Don't know who got the idea that he'd play 2-3 positions, but that's not now -- nor has it ever really been in the cards. He's not a talented enough WR to play ahead of the guys LSU has there now.
Miles is a known fibber (liar) when it comes to stuff like this. I don't believe anything he says about injuries or stuff like that in fall camp.
Miles didn't promise him anything about staying at a position. Those hacks from UT are just mad we went into Texas and got him. From what I understand, UT told him he could not play QB because they had already got a commitment from a top QB in the state and told him that they wouldn't recruit another QB. All Shep wanted was a chance to play QB. My understanding is Miles told him he would have his chance to play QB and anywhere else he wanted to try and play. Shep was the one who said if he couldn't win the starting job he wanted to get on the field anywhere he could to help the team win.
Not something new... He was given reps at WR in the spring and Shep, Miles, and Crowton acknowledged he would likely get looks at other gimmick positions. I agree that a majority of the live snaps this year will be gimmick plays from the QB spot because that is where the best results have come so far and he is comfortable there.
The kids a true freshman, you can't expect him to open the season knowing 3 or 4 positions. Learn one fairly well and add the others over time. You can expect him to have some specialty plays early in the season, but don't expect him to see him on the field most of the offensive plays. That's just unrealistic expectations. The coaches will involve him more as the season progresses.
