today in the advocate said that russell shephard MIGHT see playing time and as a QB ONLY? hopefully that is just coach talk. shephard had better be on the field more often than not this season. and what's the deal about craig loston? i hate to keep beating a dead horse here, but something is not right about this dude. hand surgery? wtf? 2theadvocate.com | LSU Sports | Shepard's career starts at quarterback — Baton Rouge, LA
I believe what he means is that RS will only be working at QB for now. And Loston is back an forth. I just want to get him in school and then we can worry about injuries/getting him into the lineup. But anyway you look at it, when have we know CLM to be completely straight up with the Media. If he is practicing RS somewhere else, you think he is going to let everyone know about it right away?
I think realistically he will see the field about as much as Holliday has the last few years. I doubt that is what most fans want to hear, but it's probably pretty close to what is gonna happen.
yeah i agree with this. and i'd be happy with it. but the way miles talks about it seems a bit... :insane: maybe? i love miles, but sometimes i wonder if he's purposefully being sneaky, or just being CLM. and i do not mean that in a negative way. :geauxtige
I still want to see him redshirt. We have enough athletes now to win games and I'd like to see this guy learn the QB spot over any other and be our number 1 QB for three years after JJ leaves after next season. If he doesn't redshirt...and JJ stays through his senior year...then we'll only see ONE year of RS under center. Patience, people! He'll be a star, but he's still rough right now.
but the fact that he supposedly told scouts that he was going to receive hand surgery and be unable to play the entire year? IMO we need loston to step up this season. if any of our freshman burst onto the scene with major PT, it should be craig loston. now maybe this dudes a sneak and was telling other schools that he needed surgery because he knew he wanted to be at LSU. i guess we'll have to wait and see. i haven't been this giddy about football season in a very long time guys. usually baseball is what gets me fired up, but being that we won the CWS paired with the fact that we were 8-5 last season.... boy, oh boy. maybe it's because i don't remember the last couple of games of 2007 -- yes, i was intubated and in ICU during the SECCG and BCSNCG -- but this season cannot get here fast enough.
The UT folks over at Shaggybevo.com were saying that Miles got RS to sign because he promised him he would have a shot at QB and he wouldn't be red-shirted. Take it FWIW.
i politely disagree. shephard is a gamer and came to LSU to play. if he can't beat out JJ, well then honestly i'd prefer that JJ start (because that would mean that JJ is better than RS.) but i do get what you're saying. he won't redshirt though, so it's a futile and moot scenario, IMO. i'd like to see the ball in his hands. can you imagine putting trindon and shephard in at the same time. who do you go after? we ALL know that when trindon enters a game... the ball is going to him. shephard allows a LOT more. i guess we'll have to wait and see.
yeah RS will not redshirt. and he will have a shot at QB, but i just don't see him overtaking JL or JJ right off the bat. and i do remember RS saying that he would embrace any position that he was put at. i'm paraphrasing, but he said he wasn't put-off by being a "percy harvin type" player. don't get me wrong. these are great problems to have as a program.
