it doesn't make it better or change anything... re-read a few posts up... I showed the difference in the two QB styles... JLs style tends to put more air under a ball leaving recievers out there. This is where our OC is failing him... he's not being taught the things he needs to succeed, and as long as things stay that way, JL will continue to struggle and hanging recievers out to dry... it's not his fault, he has a pretty pass, but those aren't the kind of touches you put on a ball thrown on those routes. And the longer he struggles with things like that, the longer we struggle as a team... and eventually recievers may stop going up for those balls all together.
Well, being a casual fan, I was under the impression that the NCAA, NFL and probably some state high school associations put the helmet rule in because of the number of serious and permanent injuries had increased dramatically since most of us old farts played ball. I know it is a dangerous game and when you get on the field, you accept a lot – sort of like race car drivers are accepting a lot when they go 200+ just inches away from other cars, etc. But, with players like Jack Tatum calling himself the Assassin (and frankly I always liked Tatum but hated the promotional nick name), incidents like the Tatum/Darryl Stingley hit and the Chucky Mullins hit at Ole Miss and others getting lots of publicity, the leagues decided they had to clamp down on hits that were deemed more likely to cause serious and sometimes permanent injury to one or both players involved. So bottom line, I have no problem with the rule. Hell, I still remember in the 60s in Louisiana high school football, a couple of my teammates got flagged for “helping the runner advance” – basically the fullback or a guard pushed a tailback through a pileup to get a few extra inches. The way it was explained to me was you can cause serious back injury, maybe even permanent, if you hit someone in the back in the wrong place. So you have to play within the rules, and as we all know, the rules do change. As for LSU, we have had two incidents recently – the hit on JJ at Alabama and the hit on Tolliver by LaTech. Either incident had the potential for permanent injury to an LSU Tiger ---- so, I did not like either hit and I wish both had been called. Oh, one final thing – I really hope the post below was made in jest – you may not care for JL, but the illegal hit was not his fault. :geaux: ldskule:
