I realize that. We still got beat down; other schools lose players to the draft and don't look as fully incapable as we have. Les didn't take the opportunity to play Jennings last year. We're giving the QBs too much rope (and not enough) by playing them too long (and not opening up the playbook).
I took a blank sheet of 8 1/2 X 11" paper & a black magic marker & in very large capital letters wrote REALITY on it and taped it to the wall above the TV. It's early, but it appears to be helping.
The team is a reflection of their coach and we definitely look passive this season. Miles is a players coach and that is his best and worst asset.
I understand LSU has lost a lot more talent than anyone, with only Bama being close. The issue here is not the losses. It is how they lost the games. There was no preparation. The team did not show up to play. The play calling was not to lose the game, rather than to try to win the game. The team has shown absolutely no improvement from game one. How do you expect a team to improve when their coach has no attention to detail. Clock management is all about attention to detail.
Bottom line is we don't have it this year. I see us losing a lot of games. We lost a ton of players last year, which shows. Miles is in a tough spot, but he's been in a tough spot most of his tenure. We've only had an offense to speak of twice, and our defense has dropped off the past couple years. Maybe they'd do better this year if the offense could sustain drives. I wasn't a Miles fan early into year one, but he's had success which quieted my criticism and helped me to buy in. We're struggling again which makes me start to question everything. Is "we may compete in a year or two" good enough, considering our last visit was a few years ago, where we were steamrolled? Considering we had a historic offense last year, is it ok that our D was so bad?
Sorry, unlike you I want to see improvement in my team. I want to see them prepared and ready to play, win or lose. I also can not accept a man making over $4 million a year making a clock management issue in more games than not. Since '07, outside of '11 LSU has not been a well coached team.
It is difficult to have a conversation without pointing a finger if you trying to discuss why LSU is not winning. LSU has to get back to coaching kids up like in the past.
