Anybody make out what Les was saying on that TD pass vs Tennessee?

I mean really, what was Sheppard supposed to do ... run it to the 1 yrd line and take a knee??

If you're up by 30 and intercept the ball in a pick 6 situation ... do you have your DB run out of bounds just before he gets to the goal line??

I don't think anybody in the nation can say that the LSU tigrs are guilty of running up the score intentionally. But hey, scores happen when you're this good. It's not like it was a down field pass into the endzone designed to score if caught .. Shep had to work a little bit for it. RS deserved to get a score on his resume. How do you tell Sheppard .... "son .. you shouldn't have scored that last TD" ... I mean .. get real.

The question is not whether Shep should have caught it and ran it in, it is about the actual play call. The game was in hand, and to call a pass play to aggressively try to score when it will not impact the outcome of the game in any way is what is being discussed and what CLM was apparently upset about.

THIS is when you know you're getting old. :bncry:

Sorry bud, but the Dallas Cowboys hey day wasn't when Aikman was QB, and DAMN sure wasn't when Jerry Jones owned the team.

The Cowboys hey day was when Tom Landry was coach, Staubach was QB, Dorsett was RB, and Danny White was a young up and coming punter. Randy White and Hollywood Henderson, Tony Newhouse, Drew Pearson, the REAL Dallas Cowboys.

    Frick Jerry Jones.

Oh, and I was a bit surprised to see them throw at that juncture of the game. I have no idea what Miles thought about it, but it surprised me. I tried to put a positive spin on it. I was glad we beat them decisively after last year. I was glad to see Shep get some confidence. I was glad to see Lee build on an already great season. I was OK with it, just surprised.

I was surrounded by Tennessee fans, and work with Tennessee fans during the week. I didn't hear one single complaint from any of them...even at the game.

The play was originally called a lateral, not a pass. Les, his coaches, & UT coaches all decided it was a forward pass after watching game film.

What was Shep supposed to do? flea-flicker it back to JL? Run the wrong way? Run towards the other endzone? Run from side-line-to side-line to burn more time off the clock by zig-zagging up and down the field? Stand there and wait for someone to hit him? If the intention of the last minutes on the field were not to score, then Mett and other 3rd stringers should have been put in.

Again, you're not getting the point here.

Every other time in Les Miles tenure here, that is 100 % a running play and we kick a FG (unless we run it in).

For LSU to pass the ball in that situation was a great departure to how Les Miles manages games in this situation.

That's why I would like to know what he was saying to see if maybe Stud called the play and Les wasn't aware we would be passing and felt uncomfortable doing that.

Couldn't read his lips, but his body language matches what you say. I don't think he wanted to rub it in, but that's just what I saw.

I agree with grind it out when you're in control, but if you don't make first downs you lose control of grinding the clock. I don't understand running into a stacked line three times and then kicking when sustaining a drive will end the game sooner. Maybe Les didn't agree with the call but I don't have a problem with it.

I think it's all good in that a run is called but our QB is able to check out to something that is going to work. Les will just have to deal with how good the system is working and how good this team is. It is also a very deep team and our 2 and 3s can play with anyone. They are going to want to show off when it is show time!

That was just the tail end.

The Superbowl champs of Superbowl VI was the "hayday". Staubach was the QB, but Walt Garrison, Calvin Hill and Duane Thomas were the RBs, ... Bob Lilly and Jethro Pew were the star DLs. Bob Hayes was the it of WRs .... an olympic sprinter who the Cowboys figured they could teach to catch the ball. Hays is the reason for the "zone secondary" these days, as no DB could keep up with him. :D
