I had us losing 3-4 games this year. UGA, Bama, A&M and possibly one more between UF, Ole Miss and Arkansas. Upset but not really shocked by what happened today with this inexperienced D.
I had us losing 3 games, although I didn't have our offense this potent. If someone had told me we were going to be this great on offense and specifically the passing game, then I would have said 13-1, national championship. I didn't expect this much of a fall off by the defense. Not even close. I thought we would be something like the 2010 defense, good enough to help you win games with a little offense.
The issue is clearly the players. We need to put Beckwith on the field just for the sake of having some thumpers on the field, if nothing else. If they don't make that single change, at the very least, then I have no hope that they want to correct the problems on defense.
What was disappointing, and I think it was either Mctiger or MM that brought this up, we should have adjusted and just went for broke after the QB and played press man. Then you watch Georgia on that last series selling out trying to get to Mettenberger, and it won the game for them. That sucks.
You would have thought that after the Bama raping in the last minute of the game last year they would learn but Chavis is too old to start changing schemes or ways. LSU better be up 2 scores in the last 2 minutes of a game because there is zero doubt almost any team in America is going to be able to score with Chavis weak-ass defense.
I can't hate on Chavis. Not after turning around the defense like he did in 2009. Then what we had in 2011. And 2012, for that matter. We lost two regular season games, giving up only 14 and 21 points, respectively. That's not on Chavis.
I was a little worried going into the season with Loston. But he has far surpassed by concerns. He is awful.
