Kendell Beckwith had his first sack/tackle for loss. Jalen Mills also had his first sack of the season. Danielle Hunter had his first 2 pass breakups of the season (hopefully the start of a trend). LSU defense held it's opponent without a TD for the first time since the opening game of the 2012 season (Washington). Rasco doubled his QB hits for the season (went from 4 to 8) in the Florida game.
I think they get tested on Saturday. The black bears have a banged up D but the O looks to be pretty good. This may be because the only time I've really seen them is vs Vandy and EatmE, not exactly defensive juggernauts. Should be an interesting game, forget the spread, bet the over
Three players got their first sacks of the year, Mills and Beck like you said, one you missed was Micah Eugene.
I have to give Chief a lot of credit for "adjusting", with Eugene being one of those players he had to rethink how to utilize to get the most out of him. Things hit an all time low in the Georgia game as far as his stint here as LSU DC. Now we have new CBs contributing, more depth, guys like Quentin Thomas helping out, etc. I think we still aren't finished molding things, as Beckwith now has caught everyone's attention on potentially becoming an impact player. We have 3 more weeks to work out the kinks of a much different defense than what was presented to Georgia. Here is to hoping it helps lead us to victory to run the table. We have an opportunity to become a prime player on the "back end" of this season, as Les would say.
The Ga WR that caught the winning td was quoted as saying "I was so open, if someone threw a grenade I would have been the only one that died" Sad hearing that about an LSU defense and knowing it to be true. Hopefully the upward trend continues
It sadly took a loss to Georgia and giving up 44 points before something was really done about it. We all saw as knowledgeable fans even against teams like Kent State and UAB where on the scoreboard, things looked to be ok, that things were not going to pan out well vs Georgia from a defensive standpoint. But for whatever reason we just stuck with the plan of trotting out the same guys, trying to have them fit into their roles they weren't suited for. Hindsight is 20-20, but it's probably unfortunate LSU didn't end up beating TCU 41-37, instead of giving up only what was essentially 13 points on defense.
Maybe so, the fact remains that it could have been from any player in a Ga uni that caught a ball the day they played LSU. It still fits.
And the Arkansas receivers could have said that about us a few years ago when we blew several deep coverages. Shit happens, these guys are human. And there is always a learning curve.
And you don't think this has happened many times in the past vs our vaunted defense. Remember Craig Steltz getting burned similarly vs UGA in Athens?
