We need to keep using them BOTH. Last night, KW and CS combined for 23 carries, 119 yards and 2TD. That's pretty good. One runs inside while the other generally runs outside. We should probably put them in the backfield together a little more. Maybe, but I dunno. :crystal::geaux::crystal::geaux::crystal:
Charles Scott had some big runs for first downs last night. Keiland is being used situationally like he should have been the past 2 years. I always thought Keiland should have been the starting tailback, and Scott spelling him. The way the run was used last night was perfect in my opinion. Keiland is fast, use him on the edge, pitches, sweeps, options, misdirections, off tackle. Scott is a bruiser, isolation plays and play actions when we need pass protection, because our O line is having trouble with pass protection. Trindon Holliday shouldn't be in the backfield, if you want to use Trindon so bad, line him up in the slot, and bubble screen him, or inside screen him. That being said i am extremely satisfied with the way the running game is looking so far. Keiland is a home run threat and Chuck the Truck is a punisher.
Attention deficit disorder is a horrible disease... If Scott is asked to block as a fullback, catch footballs out of the backfield, run between the tackles, run around the end, and play special teams - I think that makes him a VERY COMPLETE BACK. Remember - he had over 1000 yards last year splitting time with K. Williams and to a lesser extent R. Murphy. Scott is sent up the middle, by the coaches, because K. Williams is horrible at it. He is too easy to tackle and doesn't have Scott's drive. Scott is a step slower than K. Williams around the end at full tilt, but he's just as good until KW gets to that fifth gear - and sometimes KW never gets there because he doesn't see the seam in time. KW FINALLY has a good game, Charles Scott is stuck peforming the role of surrogate fullback, and some folks think it's time to say Scott is fat and slow and the gig is up? I love this forum and all you guys. But holy crap, watch a game sober or something. Just because K. Williams may have finally had the light come on, that doesn't mean C. Scott isn't still carrying a huge load for the team. By the way - the first guy to congratulate KW was C. Scott, who was blocking for him on at least one of those runs. I love the teamwork. Very evident.
That is completely false. KW gets in and out of cuts much faster than Scott and his initial burst is much quicker. It's not just the "5th" gear.
:geaux:Short term memory is a hell of raw deal. KW is a speedy guy and CS is a bruiser. CS had some good runs and KW had some good runs. A HUGE problem I see with the option pitch, however, is JJ likes to run backwards instead of along the line and I'm not a huge fan of that. But that's why I make a mediocre salary at a mediocre job, I guess.:LSU231:
Well, that's your opinion. I've watched him hesitate and lose yards so many times where Charles Scott just BUSTS through the seam - that's my opinion. The stats and the video - if you go back and watch film other than KW highlights - bear out what I'm saying. Good news - they're both very good backs, both healthy, both wearing Purple and Gold!
I agree with that, but that is mental. Physically, KW is night and day with CS when it comes to quickness as well as top end speed.
And I'll agree with that, except KW can't use what he's got - at least he hasn't consistently in the past. If, mentally, you can't bring your physical gifts to bear, then they are irrelevent. I for one am stoked that KW may have turned that corner. We'll see.
Seems to me that in the first two games they've called the same play for Scott over and over again....line him up in the I, run him between guard and tackle. The defense knows where he's going to be every time he touches the ball. On the other hand, they're being much more imaginative about the way they're using KW.
Scott is great when the situation is favorable for power backs. the situation with Vandy lended itself more to KW's style of running. Scott likes contact and likes to run over people, then get in the open.... Vandy was putting 3-4 hats on him, it's hard to run over that many folks. KW likes to see the hole and exploit it with a burst then find the open field and run to it, kind of like Murphy. Two different styles. I am definately on the KW train, when it works. Or when Scott's style obviously isn't working. It's great to see Scott run over people. He has that tough ability similar to hester but with more speed. Play it if its there. Play the back that has the HOT hand, best chance to win, etc. so on and so forth.... No one needs to take anyone's place its a team sport.
