Just wondering if any LSU fans going to Indy Bowl and who will you pull for in the game? I am conflicted on this but i will be pulling for the SEC in all games. I know that the Indy Bowl isnt the most glamorous of the bowls but since i am from Shreveport area and get back there when i can to see my parents i have always enjoyed the game when i have been able to go. Saw the Alabama- Iowa State game a while back as the last one i was at home to see. It is good for the Shreveport area and it always seems to be one of the better games to watch. Saw the LSU - Notre Dame game there and i remember sitting behind some ND fans and they had beaten us earlier that year so they were pretty cocky before the game. During one of our banters i told them what kind of a sissy name is Notre Dame for a University. We only name our high schools in La. that. It isnt good enough for our universities. They stood there with their mouths open with no comeback. I know it was stupid but sometimes you got to get stupid with stupid people. I was able to beat them with more experience at it.
I almost went- have a friend who works for local paper and could've gotten a press pass- he's on the field taking pics. I decided not to but kinda would've liked to cause Colorado's Fr. WR, Kendrick Celestine, is a home town boy and I had him as a student. Calco, it was a hard one to call for me, too. Neither team worth a crap. Bama on a 4 game skid and Colorado losing 4 of their last six- not to mention one of those wins not impressive in Nebraska 65-51. I picked Bama in the end, hoping JPW had one of his good days and a Saban team came to play. As far as the "Emotional" factor, I think Colorado may be more excited about being there and that worries me. I also have to believe those Bama boys don't want to see anything to do with being on this side of the Louisiana State line for a while.
I've been to many an Indy Bowl. I'll say this about it: it's not the most glamorous bowl game even among the lower tier of bowls but the selection committee (through either good strategy or dumb luck) always seems to put together two teams who play a very exciting game. It's a shame the Indy Bowl ends up being the butt of SEC/Big 12 jokes i.e. "Have fun in Shreveport!" because it's really been a quality game way more often than not. A few of my favorites aside from Tiger visits: 1996 Auburn 32 Army 29 - one of my favorite non-Tiger games ever, this game was just an exciting battle between two teams who truly left it all out on the field. No one thought Army had a chance but they left with a lot of respect from Shreveporters and Auburn fans. 2005 Missouri 34 South Carolina 31 - everyone was fired up about OBC comin to Shreveport. USCe started out quickly and built a decent lead when Mizzou's QB Brad Smith went out briefly for frosh Chase Daniel. When Smith came back in, he led as exciting and intense of a comeback as I've ever seen, he was running, he was passing, hell I think he even threw a waterboy in the path of a D-lineman. 1990 La. Tech 34 Maryland 34 - Tech's first venture into D1 Bowl territory and a shot at legitimacy. A great, back and forth game that I think ended with Tech scoring a touchdown on the final play to tie it up. last year's game with Bama and Okie St was a good one too. I'm undecided about going to this years...Colorado just doesn't really interest me all that much...course I went to the Iowa St. vs Miami (Ohio) game and that was no blockbuster affair either. One thing though, the parking situation is pretty miserable. I usually end up parking somewhere around the grocery store on Hearne and Greenwood (possible you might get towed) or one of the little "$20 to park" lots...last year was pretty bad though, ended up on Woodrow St....I think that must be MLK's brother's name.
wasnt that snow game in shreveport between Miss St and A&M? triple OT or something. that was awesome. probably jackie sherrill's last bowl win cuz Moo U won I believe. Do not. Seriously. is this the only bowl featuring neither team with a winning record? i think theres one other.
I agree with you about the Indy Bowl. I know that SEC teams don't want to be there, but, it always seems to be a great game, AND, it is a great accomplishment to win your bowl game . . . ANY bowl game. I was at the Army v. Auburn game cheering for Army, and it was an extremely exciting game that Army led until late in the 4th Quarter.
