We have an OT, Parsons, that is a "project". He's a combine freak with amazing measurables but hasn't put it all together yet. This is the type of project that coaches like to take risks on, not players who walk off the field if they don't get their way.

I had some hope about Abernathy, but it appears his attitude has not changed at all.

Cparso, thanks for clarifying what I meant by "project".

    You are spot on.

I don't want to underestimate the importance of a powerful, dominant blocking FB--it REALLY adds to the effectiveness of the running game--but I think it's easier to find a FB than at most positions.

Take Quinn Johnson for instance. He came to LSU on the defensive side of the ball and made the switch relatively late in his collegiate playing days.

Having said that, while it would be nice to see a true FB, I don't think it's a "must get". Miles has recruited a healthy number of TE's (and possibly two more in this class if Tyler Edwards joins current commitment, Branch), I think you can take one or two of the TE's and make them "H-backs". For some reason, JD Lott comes to mind as a possible good fit at that position. With his TE background, he's got above average hands (you would think) to force defenses to account for him as a pass-catcher.

Lott's 6-foot-3, same as Dickson, but when he came to LSU, he was much lighter (210 lbs when he signed, but you'd have to believe that with Moffitt's program, he's gained some weight...220-225 lbs range wouldn't be too far-fetched). All of the other TE's (Corbin, Russian, Branch, Mitch Joseph and possibly Edwards) will work themselves into either "receiving TE's" or "blocking TE's"...but all of them were heavier than Lott, so one would think that it would be better to have those guys on the line, against D-lineman, and Lott being better suited to handle LB's.

Agreed, and further it isn't necessary in Crowton's offense.

Any one of them could move to a different position. Specifically, Corbin has often been mentioned as a candidate for moving to the defensive side of the ball & Branch would make a terrific OT.

I was thinking the same, CParso...that a great FB isn't really a must in Crowton's system. I still don't think we've seen Crowton's offense, per se. Next year with RP taking over, I believe Crowton's system will be fully implemented...and tight ends are a big part of it...FB's...not so much.

    Correct me if I'm wrong.:)
