Another year for Chavis 51 minutes ago LSU's John Chavis is in his sixth year as the defensive coordinator for the Tigers, and while his contract was set to expire at the end of this season, it appears the longtime SEC coordinator will spend at least one more year in Baton Rouge. According to a letter of agreement the school provided The Advocate on Monday, Chavis will receive a one-year contract extension through the 2015 season. His annual salary of $1.3 million will remain the same, The Advocate's Ross Dellenger reported. The new contract would have to be approved by the LSU Board of Supervisors, which is normally seen as only a formality. It should be noted that the contracts of all the position coaches have an automatic, one-year renewal tacked onto the end of their deals, unless of course the school terminates the contract.
So any cause for concern that they only triggered the automatic 1 year extension and didn't negotiate a new deal? Or will that be done in the off season?
Was that the automatic 1 year extension or another deal entirely? If it's the auto extension I wouldn't worry as they will be working on something longer. If for some reason this is a different 1 year extension that they worked out it would be curious and I would wonder which side only wanted the one year.
I suspect it will be discussed after the season ends. 58 isn't old. He's paid well and appears to enjoy working for Les. Unless there are health issues, I would be surprised if he didn't continue to be the D coordinator.
