    Because we're the only country in the world that can spend billions on missiles launched at someone else's country, a fighter jet and it doesn't even register as a line item on our budget. It's nothing for us because we made more money than we spent that day.

    Not even close. When you print the world's money at your whim and make them speak your language, you're pretty far from broke.

    Deficits are nothing. All these numbers thrown at us are "projections" and projections change every year according to tax collections, spending, etc. and all that changes several times within a year. Every group that studies the budget will come up with a different projection. Honestly, I'm not sure why we even bother anymore because no one is right.

    Yes, people have freedom. If these people who are in a group or whatever, want to donate, they should have to individually donate. It limits corruption.

    It does work, what a load of crap. Britain actually restricts their campaigns to 16 weeks, which is long enough in this day and age of mass communication. Our 2-year presidential election is a huge waste of money and essentially allows a presidency to be bought.

    donate individually, i'm not saying one cannot donate. but Exxon should not be able to donate. The labor unions should not be able to donate, etc.

    You should each contribute the max. You are citizens and constituents.

    But your corporation should not be able to lobby and contribute. Corporations are not mentioned in the Constitution and they should never come between a politician and his constituents. Let your corporation lobby the public if you want to promote your corporate message. We'll tell the politicians what WE decide about cheap dope. Not a political special interest like yours.

    And therein lies the problem. Bankruptcy is a ways down the road so you and Barack will let somebody else worry about it. For now, Party On.

    jesus. can a brother get a multi quote up in here? brett! get to it.

    what is the difference between individuals and groups of individuals? again, if i form a corporations with my homies, that shouldnt mean we collectively cant be free to give whatever we want to whomever we want.

    when lasalle and i form the corporation for the allowing of pot smokers to chill the f out without the law getting up in their ****, we want freedom to give our money to candidates. and there is not a thing wrong with that.

    " but Exxon should not be able to donate. The labor unions should not be able to donate, etc." - lasalle

    why not? labot unions and exxon are interested in the outcome just like me and you. you say they are a corrupting influence. too bad. you vote for someone who isnt corrupt, or who is corrupted by the proper influences. if a guy is totally bought and beholden the pot lobby, you and i can vote for him. not a problem.

    I totally agree with your definition of the problem but the worms would find a way around your solution. I make the following proposal;

    We hereby acknowledge that lobbyist and lobbyist money degrades good government performance due to;

    1.The lobbyist lobby makes sure that nothing passes in the way of laws or regulations that will keep cash from being king of the political process. This includes any method to obtaining cash to be used to trash the environment with signs and leaflets, ROBO F _ _ _ING CALLING people specifically at dinnertime, bombarding anything worth watching with repetitive horrible adds, and making Hitler’s Nazis look like they couldn’t even spell propaganda.

    2.Lobbyist reduce the amount of time congress can actually work on an issue because lobbyist expect to be sucked up to and sucked on for their $$

    3.The lobbyist process reduces the field of good candidates because if the candidate won’t assume the bent over position the lobbyist can’t put the payoff in the pocket.

    4.As a general rule the longer an elected official serves, the more lobbyist money he receives and is therefore more affected by 2 and 3.

    Resulting In
    1.As a result governmental effectiveness is reduced by 35%.

    2.This government degradation effect increases with time served.

    3.This results in a more costly government – and therefore leads to government by deficit.

    THEREFORE
    1.Henceforth donations shall be considered special income and there shall be a 25% tax, in addition to any other tax due, on all campaign funds received from any donation source. Tax to be paid by the recipient.

    2.For incumbents the tax will increase 5% per reelection term up to a maximum of 50%

    3. The penalty for failing to pay the tax will include forfeiture of office.

    All collected funds will be applied to the debt these idiots have run up because they worried about making the $$ not making wise forward looking decisions.
