1) I'm not convinced Miles will be leaving. If so, 2 - 3 years down the line he'll be kicking himself. A good head coach here who goes the distance has a dynasty waiting to apply his name to as long as he keeps up the great recruiting. 2) If he does leave, I see a number of coaches tossing their names in the hat. It would sure be nice to find a great coach with a great personality for recruiting that perhaps has ties here in south La. so we don't have to keep going through this merry go round.
How about Butch Davis? Word is flying around about him to TA&M. Proven recruiter, he left Miami stocked. That's why I hope if Miles is leaving, he does it quick and don't leave us hanging like litlle Nicky (merry frickin Christmas)
The only reason people are discussing CLM is because of his ties to UM. I haven't heard any other names mentioned and probably wont until Carr is officially retired and UM begins their search. If CNS is interested, his name will be out there. It will probably be out there even if he isn't.
It is very tough to say who the next head coach of LSU will be, giving that it is not a definite that CLM leaves the tigers. I, personally, think that Miles accepts the Michigan offer, if it is offered to him. Where does that leave us? i find it a tough stretch to think we will draw Rodriguez from WV. The WV job is as much his dream job as Michigan may be to miles. I think, given the status of our program, it will be very easy to find a top level coach. I think finding a coach that wants to stay in a program for years and years is becoming more difficult. I think Spurrier gives the Tigers a hard look. I think the "chicken curse" is real in Columbia and he now sees it. Is Spurrier going to be a long term coach or replacement? I don't know, he is getting old, but I would take our level of talent, his coaching abilities, and his recruiting abilities for the next 4-5 years and then look to see who is next in line.
As mentioned already, Peterson was the one running the offense...which, has been Boise State's claim to fame. That doesn't mean to take away a thing from Hawkins...he's looking like a damn good coach.
And, coaching success at Boise State doesn't guarantee success outside Boise State. The previous Boise State HC had just as much success over a longer period of time than Peterson but he hasn't found the same success at Colorado with a overall record of 7-14. If the BCS had increased its bowl games earlier, it might have been Hawkins who took his team to the BCS bowl game.
