Another reason for the rest of the country to hate the SEC

    That's your opinion. It's one I don't share.

The fact remains the coaches and the members of the Harris Poll didn't think Okie State deserved to be in the game just like they didn't feel Alabama deserved to be jumped when they weren't playing. And, as logic states, the determining factor was a loss to an un-ranked team late in the season.

You've actually substantiated what I suggested.

The polls reflected that for three weeks as well.

The system in place has benefited more than one team in its history; your program included in that list.

You know, in the end Florida proved they deserved to be in the BCSNC with a win.

Hence the Florida comparison. Gundy was in a very similar situation. Two minutes of googling could've uncovered Meyer's quote and allowed him to start laying the groundwork for swaying the voters in likewise fashion. Maybe it would've worked, maybe not. Shooting himself in the foot in front of reporters didn't help: http://www.tulsaworld.com/sportsext...id=202&articleid=20111129_202_B1_STILLW247673

I might also add that there's a substantial difference between voter polling and active lobbying on the part of influential media members to sway those votes. And before anyone calls me a homer, we most certainly also benefited from Herbie's "endorsement" in 2007.

As I said, if you can game the BCS system to your advantage, more power to you. Good coaches know how to do that, and Nick and Les both certainly are. But I'm not going to pretend that politicking doesn't play a significant role.

I agree, and see nothing wrong with a coach doing so.

I didn't see Saban as playing politics this past season because of how the polls had already worked themselves out. If the situation we reversed, would I have described Coach Miles as playing politics? I don't know.

As I think about it I can only come up with one situation where something like this has hit me the wrong way. Part of that was probably due for my lack of respect for Tuberville when he was in front of the media so often in 2004.

(SOFTBALL UPDATE: That was a hell of a collision on the first base line...football players should take notice, they led with their shoulders! ;) )

    Back to 2004...

I want to say my biggest complaint that year was the point of Tubs ignoring the point they scheduled the Citadel.

To quote a coach we both know, "it is what it is."

I was going through a blaxploitation phase. :D

Don't get me started on Tuberville. He'd be a perfect fit at Arky, and he could claim a hat trick for SEC schools.

    Just a guess...

As long as he can keep his hands off the cigars and hot young things half his age, he should be fine. Unfortunately, it's Arkansas, where both go together like PB+J.
